How do you get the bike on and off your work stand?
I have a 3-section Ready Ramp that doubles as a tailgate extender when I load a bike in the truck. It's about 8' long when unfolded. I also built a 3-section walk ramp out of an old aluminum ladder that fits inside the ready ramp and is the same length unfolded.
I also want to thank everyone for their help and advice. Reading back through the thread, there were a few details I was stuck on and probably would have bugggered something without all the sage experience around here. Considering everyone who has done this type of resto (some multiple times!) I think I was helped striving for the high standards you all set with your work and craftsmanship.
It's almost a real motorcycle. Just waiting for that non-ethanol fuel to try a fireup.
BTW, the leaky k/s shaft I mentioned earlier was my fault, not the machines. I neglected to replace the o-rings before reassembly. Figured it out when I found the new bits an a box.

The primary, forks and gearbox did the same thing when the drain plugs came out.
I live in an "encapsulated" art studio. All the "Historic" lead based paint was falling off the walls and bricks and a sharp mom here called them on contamination issues what with little children about. A million dollars of special "E" paint and labour later and it's sealed in good. Lead is so bad news.
Only if you EAT it.

A guy who knew I was familiar with lead abatement called me and said his 6-month-old son had tested positive for lead. I said, "you live in an old house, could he have eaten some paint? Answer, No we've scoured the house and no evidence of that. Everything was painted when we moved in, so the lead isn't on the surface. Turned out, he had done a little scrape-and-paint for a little old lady neighbor's porch and had brought it home on his clothes.
Lead is insidious and very dangerous for children. Adults not so much, but any exposure to an infant or child under about 12 can be very dangerous to the child's health.
Hence 12 businesses , 28 live-work units all temporarily moved out pre-encapsulation paint work. Remediation.
Currently there are Asian companies buying all the surplus lead paint that has been banned here and reblending it for use in 3rd-world countries where lead paint is not banned. Guess where the next lead-caused problems will occur. The stuff was banned from paint in most European countries before WW1. They left it in paint here until recently simply to prop up the failing lead minng and smelting industry.
Anyway, enough of that. Back on topic, today I meet up with Captain Jim for pub lunch. He's bringing me some no-corn juice fuel, so first start up attempt of the Titanic today.
Good luck , we hope she fires up , Check oil return at the tank and keep revving it up and down to get that oil circulating well.
Poured in a couple gallons, tickle, choke and it fired second kick. Noticed one drippy carb and the rocker feed is weepy (should have replaced that already). Get those drips lined out and it should be ready for a ride test. Up and down the road will be enough to get a good oil level.
Great. Best oil level believe it or not is slightly below the dipstick high level mark.
I know it's about a quart low, but didn't want to overfill.
Congrats! I was going to fire up my completely restored 74 for the first time today but it turned cold and rainy. Maybe Wed.
Temp hit 57F yesterday after two weeks below freezing, most of it in single digits, so I fired it up and took it for a short spin to get a good oil level and check things out. Needs a clutch adjustment and some fine tuning on the carbs. Everything seemed to function as designed. The crossover pipe is leaky and noisy. Have to figure out some sealant for that. Next test will be to get it good and hot and re-torque the head bolts. Gonna be 60F+ today for a few hours before the bottom drops out again.
