Great
Dave, you're an inspiration for others in the retoration phase who follow your build that it can be done!
They just need to avoid reading the thread on the Boyer, that was a trial for sure. :(
Bob

Simple troubleshooting. There were a lot of suggestions and I only had time to try a few at a time. If I had done the most basic (which was completely isolate the Boyer from the harness) I probably would have found it sooner.

So that took a week or so. Can you imagine how long it would have taken if I was on a deserted island? I would have gotten frustrated and thrown the whole thing in the bin. But I had all ya'll pressuring me to make it run.

So, right, on to the next drama.

"The kill button works"

Good to see it running, i need to check your other thread and see what the heck you did/didn't do to sort your ignition troubles.
Seems to have been Ground wire on Boyer with a bad connection.

Glad you proved me wrong, believe it or not. The other thread will tell the tale.
It wasn't about proving anyone wrong. It was about trying all the suggestions and believe me, taking the Boyer out back and pulling a "hobot" on it was getting near the top of the list. All of the suggestions were given out of genuine hope that the damn bike would start. No one was there with me in the garage looking at the crap wiring job and trying each wire. All you could do is make suggestion and hope I didn't screw it up too much.

Don't be lugging it on any more test rides. Get it out there and wind it up properly and seat those rings or you'll regret not doing so.
Engine is not fresh, it was refreshed a LONG time ago and sit until my brother lunched his crank. He then took this engine and popped it in his 850 and ran it for a while. So it's already broken in.

Bike ain't done yet. Many more things to do to it.

Well, they're never "done" anyhow, are they? At least not for most of us on this forum.

Thanks goodness Norton are a never ending process, even if just left sitting around.
Its been noted that folks who retire and get caught up on everything tend to die soon after. Jewish women who should already have gone will hang on days awaiting news of a wedding or new baby or special date. Those having to use wits constantly avoid most the dementia. I tease bikers when on my Commando,
saying as I idle by, "Them Thumb Commencers lower one's IQ you know!"
then SNorton it nicely out of there. hobot- easy money for vendors.

Well done Dave, wish my compute would let the sounds flow. I am close to getting my 74 going again after a major rebuild, so this is much appreciated inspiration. Sorry your Dad wasn't able to witness the event man!
Fathers Day coming up this week-end in Sydney, so with some shed time this week I might be able to crank mine up. Can't wait to se how she runs with the Jim Schmidt lightweight piston & rod set-up?
Once she has a couple of miles under her belt, first overbore for this engine, I plan on riding to the MotoGP in Phillip Island, a round trip from my place of about 3000 km
It will have to be the Commando now, cause the Shovel had a clutch dissaster last week-end, pushing the mainshaft clutch pushrod clean out the side of the gearbox cover.
Cheers Rich

Good Job Dave,
Glad we all got to follow along during the process.
Need anything els let me know

I am seriously contemplating hanging one of the Bultacos on a wall just to make more space. It's quite the dance to move cars and bikes out of the way to work on something.

Dave, this will make you feel better about space. Heres my wonderful work/storage space. There is a small loft that is packed with stuff and one bike in the living room, plus basement has stuff.

First Test Ride

Hey, look I posted a big photo.

Yes sir a real nice big shot of your sick infection with motorcycles. Museum scale taste but beer fridge space to put em all ; )
I've 3 bikes and one scooter, 3 dead for some years now and last one gaot smashed a month ago. But hey I got big ole mower recovered and a pull behind deck running that old motorcycle mechanics gave me ability to tackle and win.
Today is day I begin to clear rafters of a hanging engine-less Combat.
Expect for couple seasons when ice storm hit there is usually a bike hanging here.
Lucked out on Peel's painted IS tank wood stock knocked from rafters blocked a limb from tossing tank on cement or worse. 1938 JD LA tractor parts on wall.
