Have been thinking of doing another revision of my interpretation, changing over to sealed tie-rods and adding a spring.

Favorite aftermarket head steady


I gave away the extras I had, but I've not received any feedback on them so I don't know if there's anything else I should include in the design revision. Would also need to get at least 10 others interested to do them "at cost".

I used unsealed 5/16" joints, but I doubt if I'll get 7000 miles on it in my life. They would be easy enough to replace anyhow. It might be one of those 5000 mile wear items for a few bucks.

It started making noise at about 3000mi. I noticed the handling was going downhill at 5000mi. When I swapped it out for Jim's the improvement was significant. It's hard to notice it when things degrade slowly . I've found the if you sit on the bike and swing the bars back and forth it shifts the engine/cradle to the extent of it's clearances. If you do it with one hand on both parts of the headsteady you can tell what the state of affairs of the links are in. Same goes for the front iso.

Ditto that Ludwig's headsteady is simple in concept. You need to be able to tack the plates together on the bike though.

Yes, he mentions that in his instructions. I was thinking about having a local shop make the parts for me, but we'll see. So far I'm happy with the Taglieri.
