I have an original badge that needs to have the silver or chrome backing replaced. Unfortunately getting all of the old material off is also removing the lettering. It looks like when they were made, the letters were slightly burned into the acrylic material making it easy for someone to paint the letters black a certain amount of consistency. Anyone know if that is how they were made? I'd like to scrape the rest of the backing off and I'm hoping that I can just hand paint or touch up the letters.

I just ordered a mold making kit and some clear epoxy resin to duplicate the badge. Next will be trying to figure out how to duplicate the lettering.

Good luck with this
Will be interesting to follow..

Available new from Andover Norton at £14 each. Pt number 06-0499.

What are you going to use for the metallic film?

The repops are not the same, however I think the later originals were a silver paint backing

I was told Krylon Chrome is an option but I'm suspicious of that but will give it a try and see what happens. I don't know if glass and mirror retail stores still do chrome backing for mirrors but that was my next thought.

Has anyone purchased these badges? The ones from Andover are a soft material and they see that these are rigid. The printing sure looks right: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133262545129?hash=item1f071110e9:g:VHcAAOSwI45d6QgB

graphics outfits have a mirror type vinyl . But it is made to be stuck to its backside not the front mirror side. You might be able to use that

Are you going to the Norton rally in NY next month?
No, wish I could but it looks like we are not going anywhere for awhile. My dog has the equivalent of Lou Gehrigs disease and I'm not going to put her down until I have to and I can't really leave the dog with a caretaker as it's quite a full time job. No kids so the animals take priority.

Hmmm....have to look into that as there is a place right down the road from me who does that kind of work.
