Facebook Fodder

A few 961 carbon bits floating around eBay atm - for anyone on the hunt.

Facebook Fodder

For those not on FB. Obtaining sprockets for the 961 is difficult. The OEM is Talon who no longer list the items - although some have managed to find stock holdings.

FB high mileage member Yuichi (Jpn) has had a custom rear made by Supersprox. Useful info if you’re in the market. No mention of cost. Colour’s a personal choice obviously!👀

When I searched the the Bike HPS UK web site what I saw was the Talon BST type 2 are still available. However not in the 50T size. They show stock on up to 48T and jumps to 51T . I wonder who uses the 51 ? I know that 48T can be used if necessary and the chain length can stay the same as OEM . So I conclude that 51T will also work. This is where TVS Norton should step in and find a supplier for their sprockets. Or at least ante up the MOQ for Talon and get them on the shelves again. Or go to whoever is making the front sprocket for them and work out a plan. What happens when the front sprocket supply dries up ? TVS/Norton need to step up.

Agreed Tony. Maybe they would like buyers to go back to them to purchase sprockets? Unlikely for a consumable item you would think. Or maybe they are simply not aware that these sprockets are unavailable through Talon. It’s worth raising the issue with Talon and Norton (through Judd maybe).

Hi again , Do you mean go back to Norton to buy sprockets ? That’s fine with me , as long as they provide them . And if you like the black color ? Anyway some company in Asia is making sprockets for them ?

Thanks for posting. I was under the impression that we were all doing this years ago . So now the newcomers can learn.
Don’t post that stuff for us old farts Tony!😄

Talons site is confusing. They list the Norton 961 on the drop down menu for front and rear sprockets, but a search of either shows the below rear sprocket only - it displays a 6 hole pattern so who knows. HPS allowed me to put a 50T rear into the basket though.

I’ll contact Talon and Bike HPS tomorrow and see what plans they have to stock sprockets for the Donington 961. Not sure who is supplying Solihull?

Thanks for posting. Did you say you are placing an order with Talon or HPS ? As far as I am aware the front Norton sprocket that Talon sells may only fit the early bikes . It was discoverd by Cootes/Snead project that it looks like mid 2013 is the cutoff. I remember Stu sourcing fronts from Talon and they won’t fit the later bikes. The late model front sprocket fits all years. You probably know this .
