This has been discussed before. That inline filter should be removed since it slows the flow of oil to the oil pump, especially on start-up, and the 2mm ball B.S. it needs to pass through. But if you leave it, it should be changed/checked regularly, as even after numerous oil changes and heating, many still find debris in it. Also, a good time to check your hoses for kinking from heat and poor routing.

I've checked this morning, no filter present at all. My Commando is a SE Donington one, year 2012-2013. I doubt any mechanist in the past removed it since it is difficut to imagine the filter is there with no specific knowledge. Shall I be surprised or worried?

It was introduced once the debris left in the Oil in Frame tank became obvious it was filling the primary filter up too quickly, its a secondary filter that keeps the large debris from the normal filter. As the tank debris decreases with time it can be dispensed with so a 12/13 probably never had one and now has no need for it.

You're correct.
The oil strainer was introduced in 2014 with the "Oil in the airbox" fix kit.
My 2014 CR did not have a strainer when delivered, but I had the kit installed in 2014 which included the strainer.
With each oil change I still find bits in the strainer, so I would never think of removing it.

yep especially as there is wee ball bearing that could get clogged further down the line !
