ES 2 (2004)

I have 1955 ES2, the single down tube swinging arm version. It is a great little bike and a joy to ride. It will cruise at 55 to 60 mph all day. Acceleration isn't brisk but keeps up with traffic OK. Vibration is negligible unless you stray over 60mph. Also fuel consumption is pretty impressive at 80+ miles to a UK gallon.

Ilf8ed, those are really good looking bikes , how was the '61 to ride in modern traffic -did it seem under powered , was engine vibration an issue , sure is a beauty though.
The ES2 was OK in city traffic. It was slow on country roads. Riding in a group of British bikes there was a BSA 441 that accelerated faster. With the featherbed frame it really didn’t need brakes going into corners. Myself and others that have owned these sold them for the same reason….too slow. However now closing on 69 years old, I wouldn’t mind having another one. Slow isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

cjandme,

I see your Japan flag. An interesting fact about my ex ‘61. Checking with the NOC factory records, it was delivered to Pickelshimer Norton dealer on Guam in 1961. Likely sold to a US sailor who brought it back to San Diego.
