Hi All.
With the Tank off and eyeballing down directly at the main frame from above. The cylinder head is off more to the left hand side of the main frame tube by about 2 centimeteres.. Is this normal??
Fitted with a Dave Taylor head steady and original rear isolastics with Norvil front. (Should have gone for the Mick Hemmings ones) All passively set up presently but is offsided.
I could pull it over to the right a bit with the Head Steady adjustment, but that would just set up stress elsewhere wouldnt it.

Many thanks for any input.

Yes 3/16" to 1/4" (but not 3/4") depending on who welded the ISO mounts or what day of the week it was !! I was told recently on this forum it was for tyre to chainguard clearance. Sounds crazy but makes sense since there is no other obvious reason.....move the wheel right in the swinging arm (so 40 yrs on we can put on 120 tyres) and move the whole engine, box and s/a back to the left to align with the frontwheel and forks. If you look at your headsteady and aircleaner to battery tray fixings you'll see these are off by the same amount. As long as both ISO's are offset the same that and front/rear wheel alignment is what matters.

You can expect the centre of the head to be 6 to 8mm offset to the primary side from the centre line of the frame. That is factory normal build and shows clearly in the Mk3 head steady where the spring bracket is bolted onto the box headsteady.

I think there's a diagram in the old Commando 750 shop manual that shows the offset between the motor and the frame.

Which Norvil isolastic kit did you use for the front?
Hi.
Am using the kits from Les Emery here in UK:roll: . However, have only installed the front conversion unit. Some readings on these forums as to their non snug fit through with the mounting bolt does raise an eybrow!!
For the time being will stay with the original rear isolasics, they`ve never been any real bother.

Thanks for all your replies, some fears have been put to rest.
