I bought one knowing in advance that I was keeping it rather than eat $100 shipping. I'm building a rat/bitsa style commando, no concern with correct part style restoration.
To cut right to the chase, biggest piece of crap I've ever bought off eBay. Not even shaped like a Commando tank (sorta, kinda, not really). much more boxy/rectangular. Rusty ,outside coated, inside flakes coarse enough to flake off with a screwdriver. Welding slag and metal debris rattling around inside. Soaked it in phosphoric acid solution about a week to remove rust and then pressure tested it. Nine leaks, all on welded seams, metal VERY THIN where they ground the welds smooth. Brazed most of the seams below and a couple spots topside. Third try got it to hold air.
Surfaces wavy/rippled. About nine thick coats of primer and wet sand with 320grit, looks about ready for the top coat (flat black ,so not as critical as a 'real' paint job). Haven't even tried gas cap fit, looks like it could be OK.
After all is done I'm still going to use tank liner, guess I could have saved a lot of trouble and used my fiberglass tank.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a nice replacement Roadster tank you would not want the tank those thieves sent me, not even close for that purpose.
If you can weld and do body work... Otherwise spend the money with a reputable vendor and get something else.
Your results may vary.
EDIT: I bought the Enfield County tank that original post was asking about.
