Geez, put in a " best offer" on a roadster tank from India on eBay....regular price was 299....I offered 150 expecting a decline...but was accepted!

Anyone ever bought one of these tanks? How bad can it be huh? (Until I get hammered by duties & taxes)

Ohhh, i have read several accounts of people who have purchased them. The last one had no less than 9 holes in it leaking. Plus the shape is horrific. There is an alloy roadster tank that looks propper on ebay around $500

Great! I figured as much, but for $150 I' ll take a chance

I will post a review the day I get it...

Just a heads up, if you see a post in the "for sale" forum for a cheap alloy tank, with my name on it...DON'T buy it...it's crap

I got one and my painter refused to paint it... it was all oil canned and had high and low spots... said he'd have to cover it with bondo and totally reshape it. The Indian ebay seller was good about returning it, but I got stuck with an 85 dollar return freight charge. I then got one from Sunset Motors for 450 that was in very good condition, required virtually no prepping except removal of the cosmoline. You have to watch the Indian gas caps also... I had to carefully work my latch over with a dremel before I could get it to lock.... but then it only cost 35 bucks... I guess it was worth it since I eventually did get it to work. I've seen new caps go for a hundred bucks.

By the way... the one I got from TC (Sunset) was from India also, and came in the exact same box and packaging that my bogus Indian one came in. There are some good tanks coming out of India as well as bad ones. I think the bad ones are rejects and they end up on ebay for 299.

That one actually looks OK, but I wonder when ZFD is going to 'do the decent thing' and get some made to spec?

Tank arrived today...way better than expected...some surface rust, not bad...fit perfectly a few welds look a bit rough but I'm quite pleased...next step....check for leaks, clean up the inside & seal....then paint

I bought a new one from Burton Bike Bits and it was of average quality. Lots of waves in the metal, rusty, and the monza cap worked like shit! It cost the better part of 600 bucks! Now for a couple extra hundred, I'm having an aircraft style cap welded in place of monza cap. Not to mention all the extra prep work. No wonder Evan Wilcox is so busy!!

Yes, pictures, and how much was shipping? Or total cost?

only took 2 weeks to ship from India? that's pretty impressive - bought a part for my truck from Canada and that took 6 weeks to get to Virginia

replaced the glass tank on my '70...i had to return my first one. the second one needed minor refitting ..had it painted. seems to be okay now. i think it was a bit over $500.00. not sure there is enough of a demand to justify the expense of western manufacture (like, you know made from prints and stuff). metal ones are a crap shoot but old glass tanks are (i think) time bombs.

eBay tank...

200 Cdn. Shipped, no extra duties or taxes.

If someone can give me an email address, I'll send pictures...I can't post direct from my iPad?....probably my fault...

1 flaw....I can live with it, some might not...gass cap flange is backward :D Cap opens towards me not the bars....oh we'll. I'm no purist

I've got the same problem as you when it comes to posting pictures from my iPad. You gonna coat that tank or just keep it full?

Getting a sealant tomorrow...prep wise I read that u throw a handful of drywall screws in it and shake like hell, then follow up with a paint thinner or acetone, dry then seal.

Anybody know anything different?

Send me the pic and I'll post it. quartz44 at hughes dot net.

make sure it fits before you mess with it too much.

I've also just bought one of the Indian Roadster tanks off ebay ( though I swore I never would) anyway, it's the one described as made out of tooling as opposed to being beaten out. It was so cheap, GB£ 125 + 50 postage that I figured I'd give it a go, if it's faulty, the seller claims to refund completely. Obviously I'd like it to be fit for purpose, but if it has a couple of minor leaks and can be welded up, then I don't really mind. Will post a report when/if it arrives. Trying to get a British tank in UK is next to impossible, I've been looking for years now, and I just won't pay stupid money.
