How do I remove the dzus fastener for the left side cover? Just with a hammer and a suitable drive? Sorry for that question.
I've done it, just as expected with the hammer and a suitable brass drive. :D

Hey Fritzy, you do know that the Dzus fastener is held on with a circlip don't you?

You must be a watch repairman? sorry to stereotype. Just a little humour.

Sorry Guido, there wasn't a circlip, only an alu sleeve which was pressed into the frame. The fastener could not be removed from this sleeve without destroying the sleeve.

Humor is ok but I don't understand the expression «watch repairman».

Don't worry, it wasn't actually funny.

Check for the circlip, if you don't see it then it's just pressed into the frame, although I don't recall it being very snug. You should be able to get it out by just pressing.

Mine had/has a circlip, but of course it's on the right side.

Where on the right side? I'm talking about the dzus-fastener for the left side cover.

Fritz

I have an 'S' model. My exhaust headers cover my left panel and the ignition switch is in it too, so it's fixed with a spacer, bolt and nut. My right side panel is removable with the dzus. I think all 69/70 S and Roadster models were like that, it all changed in 71. I've heard some models have the dzus on both sides, but that may have been added after the factory, the early panels all have the holes for the dzus clips.

I think he was referring to you being from Switzerland where fine watches are made with great craftsmanship.
Using a hammer to dislodge that part was a attempt at irony.
I'm sure it was made in fun and not to offend.
Try growing up with the name Guido.

Sorry Guido, there wasn't a circlip, only an alu sleeve which was pressed into the frame. The fastener could not be removed from this sleeve without destroying the sleeve.

The fastener pin and sleeve do not normally separate. The "sleeve" has groove with a circlip to keep it in the frame. Typically you remove the circlip and the entire pin and sleeve slip out of the frame.
