Go to youtube and search supercharged norton. Almost all of the videos of supercharged commandos are the supercharged bike idling for a minute in someone's driveway, and then maybe the owner gives a blip on the throttle or two. I know a guy who was a long time Norton "collector/wheeler/dealer", he always rambled on about drouin superchargers. He had 3 of them, and offered me one cheap, if I would install it on my bike back somewhere in the '80's. He had numerous bikes of his own but never mounted one on any of his own bikes, so I was suspicious of how well they worked. He was constantly rambling on about nothing being better than a supercharged Norton commando... To this day, the only one's I see are idling for a minute on youtube or for sale with Tiny amounts of mileage on them. You would think that if these superchargers were so awesome, some people would be raving about them and bragging about the thousands of miles they've put on their supercharged commando...
It's hard to understand why these units are so valuable when it seems that almost noone has a supercharged commando that runs reliably. I could see someone using a supercharger for making drag strip passes where you only have to get off the line and get down the quarter mile, but something tells me that supercharging a 47HP parallel twin is not a magic equation for some superbike...
I suppose my dislike of these units stems from the fact that the guy I knew was a "teller of tall tales" in regards to all things Norton, and had I tried to fit this piece of crap to my commando, I would have spent a lot of time and money chasing this fantasy, and maybe ruined my bike in the process.
I know the guy from scotland will be along any moment now to tell us how great his supercharger works, to keep the myth alive. I just want to know how come there aren't 4 guys, or 10 guys with these units on their daily rider's?? I believe dynodave has said he has a supercharger. When he mounts one and gives it his approval, I might start to believe these things are worth something, but to me they are just part of another commando myth...
