Drouin Supercharger Belts

If you don't snap Drouin throttle to load it then as Bruce says its just normal power response but if 'lugged' down it leaps. This is why Peel has 4 spd wide ratio TTI tranny with granny first gear and pretty hi final ratio. On Peel drag tests I'll start in 2nd and snick past 3rd straight 4th when tire can take about double the power of unboost engine. I already know that a slightly modified iso Cdo can put down more power on leans than the fat tire guys but they have more power to plant in the higher speed opens, so this low gear low rpm lack of boost suits my needs and reason its a hi CR dragster configured engine made to take at least 8grand on boost for a decent hi power working range of coulpe 1000 rpm. If one does not snap throttle to strain things a mildly operated boosted engine is wear and load protected more than un-boosted engines. I've old magazine articles one with Tom Drouin and the Editor switching out on launches with photo of editor pulling wheelie before he could get his feet on pegs and freaked out at 8 PSI but ole Tom spiked it to 12 PSI so had the bigger bally grin. Tom made em to also fit Sportsters and Honda 750's too. Also Peel is now has hard points to mount side rig which is another reason for type and ratio ordered from TTI. Detonation is an issue at lower rpm more than higher so hope some lack of boost response down low gears and speed but still plenty torque on tap to have digital traction for parking lot stunts and higher phases of handling when bike falls over or is tripped out and forks snatched into straight steer. Run out of power doing that is bad ju ju.

Sounds like in the lower gears it's a bit like riding a Kawasaki Mach III. Nothing then EVERYTHING. Well with the Mach III, nothing was really nothing until you hit the magic rpm, then utter madness! At least for those days, probably relatively tame by today's standards.

Sounds to me hobot like a lot of fun, practising rapid departures without finding yourself still sitting at the lights, on your bum whilst the bike is disappearing over the hill 200 yards up the road.

I think I'll make this project #3. But getting the info together now to put in my Norton Project Book.

Get real philly Nortons are all romping stomping low down torquers so not at all like on/off 2 smoke power bands. Ya get base line Norton response with lots of extra icing on top. Snail type blowers are known for their 'soft' boost rise and then exponential rise as rpm increase - till impeller cavitates or comes apart. Beware though that Drouins are like the Pope Diamond bad things are associated with it like divorces and bankruptcy and dead daddies. Bruce is only one I know that got most a decade use and then got off it in time. Peel's air muscles will suck hobot forks down 3-4" to avoid wheelies and still have 2"+ travel on compressed springs for steering control until floating front level. If ya want to loose as much sleep as me try to come up with a modern blower kit to offer.

I said that hobot, nothing was really nothing on a Mach III. I know what the Norton has low down, the idea of blowing massive amounts of air/fuel into it really appeals to me. You started me on this lunacy, so don't start telling me about dead daddies etc now. I've done the divorce and bankruptcy bit. No more divorces in mind but another bankruptcy is looking inevitable.

Life is for living. It's a lot better than the alternative!
