I have a 58 Dominator 88 that runs very well but I have a problem.
If it has sat for a few days or weeks when I start it up a great deal of oil will come out of the breather. Hell it looks like the Torrey Canyon went aground in my driveway.
Back when it was built it just vented to the ground with no return to the tank. I would rather not do that, just plane messy in the least.
Maybe I should be looking for a later Atlas oil tank set up to catch the oil and return it to the tank. Or, is there a way to plumb in the vent return without replacing the tank?
Ideas?

You could always grind the endplates on the oil pump flat, as per the owners manual,
and HOPEFULLY reduce the oil seeping past the oil pump and thus wet sumping while standing.

Or, heaven forbid !!, fit an oil tap between the tank supply line and the oil pump.

The race guys vent the oil breather into a little catch tank - a cokecan etc.
You want to have a look at the gunge that comes out that breather BEFORE it goes into the oil tank...

Or drain the sump if its been standing a long while between rides.
They even make quick drain sump plugs these days, for that very purpose.

For about $70 plus 2 way post, you can send your timing cover and oil pump to AMR in AZ. Their mod will stop or greatly reduce wet sumping.

You can convert your Dommie oil tank to the Atlas type simply by welding in a 1 in. Dia tube on the tank roof. See my post to get the idea of it.

A reed valve on the breather will help control leaks. You could fit an XS650 type, or a Comnoz sump plug type. There must be dozens of threads on this topic. Use the search function.
