Has anyone purchased an oil tank from Doflicky104 in the UK (Bristol)? I purchased a tank from him off Ebay in November and he stated he needed 4 weeks to fabricate but it's been 7 weeks and I still don't have it or a tracking number. The guy doesn't return messages. It looks like a great tank and the price was very good but I've lost patience. If he would simply give me an updated ETA I'd be happy. I looked at his feedback and he sold another one in December and the buyer posted feedback that he received his next day. Then today, Doflicky listed another one for sale....

Re: Doflicky104 - Anyone heard of this oiltank guy in the UK

Of course an hour after I posed this I finally got an email saying that it's being sent out this weekend. What a relief!!! I will post pictures when it arrives. Patience is a virtue I don't have.
Thanks guys.

Those tanks look good and are selling at a reasonable price. When you get it in your paws, let us know what the workmanship is like and how it fits.

Sometimes these one man businesses are poor at communicating because they are trying to do too many things at once, but it is irritating when people don't return messages.

It is very frustrating. He seems like a nice guy, but he's AWOL again. It is now 2 months since I paid for it on EBAY. He sent me a message apologizing for the delay last week and said it would be shipped last weekend. I never received a tracking number. I have since emailed him a couple times to see if he can get me the tracking humber but no response. Unfortunately I have had to escalate it via Ebay Support. I will let you guys know how it is if it ever gets here.

Sounds like he has a big backlog of work, probably not helped by the Christmas break so he's playing catch-up, or he's had the flu, or something. A friend of mine had a similar experience with a fabricator in NZ and had to wait months to get his stuff. His work looks good, and I might be interested in getting an oil tank myself. Before doing a deal with him, and after your experience, I would call him and ask for his address so I could get a cheap flight over and hunt him down! Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Daveh. I know the guy is busy. But how hard is it to send a one sentence email with status updates? The thing that really annoys me is that he keeps listing more and more of these daily on Ebay and they sell very quickly. One guy who ordered his 3 weeks after I did already got his according to the feedback.

There's no excuse for that Johnny. You are right to escalate it. I hope eBay interject appropriately and sort this for you.

I too bought one of his tanks on October 22, 2014. The delivery time was in the first week of Dec, on Dec 4th I received an email saying it would be shipped out that week...No TANK, after several emails through EBAY, he responded on Dec 28 that it was shipped Christmas eve, as of this date - no tank. I did get an email a few days ago from him that he would check with the shipper but has failed to answer my question as to who the shipper is and a TRACKING number. I really want this tank and according to his EBAY feedback, he has delivered quite a few. I will recommend that anyone recently purchasing one who has not had it delivered as promised file a complaint through EBAY w/30 days of the estimated time of delivery or you will be out of luck. I would really be happy if this could be rectified. I understand craftsmen biting off more than they can choose but his communications could be improved.

Re: Doflicky104 - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY

Well Ebay refunded my money for the tank today. I am so angry. I purchased this back in November. This guy strung me along just to get past the 60 day mark so that I couldn't leave negative feedback.... so buyer beware, you probably won't get a tank from him. He's sold many more after I bought mine and there is no way to warn those guys.

Anyone have a nice alloy featherbed Manx style tank? I don't have the original oil tank any more (sold it here on the forum) so now I'm dead in the water on the project. :-(

Also, within an hour of me getting a refund from Ebay, he has the balls to list another one for sale. What an asshole.

Does Unity Equipe have alloy oil tanks?

If they advertise something, it's on the shelf, in my experience, even if they do sell some cheap-looking gear.

Sorry to hear that, Johnnymac. The only good thing is that you actually got your money back so now you can spend it with a reputable company if you so wish. Maybe you will have to spend a bit more, but at least you will have a tank.

Re: Doflicky104 - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY

It could be interesting to see if any that he has made and sold and delivered have actually gone overseas. ?
Ebay forces ? folks to say will sell worldwide, but some sellers have a way around that....

P.S. Nothing to stop you clicking 'buy it now' and then immediately leaving bad feedback.
Noting the previous transaction number.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I don't want to get my money tied up again. I don't think that you can leave feedback if you haven't paid for the item yet.

I heard back from Unity Equipe.... they are out of oil tanks. Anyone know who they source their Slimline tanks from? I know Unity gets their fuel tanks from TABII Classics, but TABII doesn't make slimline oil tanks. TABII says that they are too labor intensive and only make Wideline tanks.

Thanks Dave, I just sent an email to Royton Road and Race!

The one at britishbikebits looks like the same one that RGM sells. It looks like it needs some work. There is no mounting point at the top of the tank and the bobbins are missing from the sides of it. It also looks like the filler cap is further back on top which doesn't look correct to me.

Re: Doflicky104 - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY

Johnny - if you like what Royton is selling and the man says he can deliver, maybe a phone call might be a good idea, in the light of your previous experience?

If you call at breakfast your time, you should get him before he goes for his tea!

Re: Doflicky104 - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY

Unity Equipe also do alloy tanks at £440, steep, but I think that's an 'all in' price.

You might also consider a fibre glass oil tank, Unity do these for around £170.

It's also worth pointing out that a lot of racers prefer glass oil tanks, as alloy ones often split, which in the best case just leaks... In the worst case it dumps the contents of the tank onto the rear tyre!
