I'm building a rotating engine stand. any guess where the weight center is on a commando engine? I'm thinking right about where the barrel bolts on. Any more edumacated guesses?

Will you be able to mount a Christmas tree and lights on it?

A small motor drive to the rotator table similar to a record player turntable would be fun . After it's use for the Xmas tree season of course.

It's so easy to rotate an engine on a normal engine stand, why go to the hassles of all that extra work to make one that rotates unless you making a display motor for looks only and if for rebuilding would have to incorporate a locking pin to stop it rotating when doing things and if you add a motor to have it turn at a slow speed, seems to me you are overthinking things, have too much time on your hands that you are bored, no I just use a normal easy built engine stand that only gets used once in a while and its only used to pull the head and barrels off and back on and timing cover but have to be removed from the stand to split the cases.
But I like the idea of the rotating Xmas light display, anyone got a spare motor they can give me, I take it off your hands, no I think I got better things to do.

I use the AN engine stand. They are pretty much centered on the crankshaft.

I use this: Amazon product ASIN B07FH72BRV I've built lots of engines with the AN stand on it. I can't think of a better solution.

I can;

I have several of the curved tube type which you can still find for sale at swap meets every now and then.

But it's easy to make your own out of angle iron like you find on an old bed frame.

"... weight center is on a commando engine? I'm thinking right about where the barrel bolts on..."

Sounds like rotating it with a pivot at the front and back of the engine, so it can be flipped onto either side, not round 'n round. Good idea, I saw one for a Triumph unit twin, but not a Commando. If you do it, please share.
