A friend of mine here in UK has had some distortion near the through bolts at the top of his Maney 850 alloy barrels. He tells me that the bore is 0.002" smaller adjacent to the through bolts where they are counterbored. In addition he says the dimension across the front to rear of the bore has worn 0.001" in 7000 miles. That would indicate a rebore is in order at about the 35,000 mile point. He's currently trying to find a machine shop that can rebore his old relined cast iron barrels to within 0.0002" of round. Anybody got any experience of distortion on alloy barrels? Steve Maney has questioned the accuracy of his torque wrench but I think that is a cop out.
