Brand new 500 norton dominator barrels are now available and hopefully new steel crankshafts soon I’ve had these in my hand as I was one of the first to be shown them and they are a work of art and very well made, even better with the through bolts for more info have a look at the TGA web page or drop them a email I’m sure Richard or andy will be able to help with any Questions. I’ve added some photos of the barrels

**GULP** 1,950 GBP!

Beautiful work, of course.

Rethinking life's choices; I have no children to sell.

What do they do with #1, #9 & #10 - all of which now threaded into aluminium?
#1, being 3/8" and 30 ft.lb would be most at risk of pulling.
(they have explained #3, 4, 5 & 6 - now through bolts al-la commando 850) - (#2, 7 & 8 are threaded into the head)

I know they are expensive but really good, atleast he’s making them where others are not interested in doing 500 stuff
Indeed. I've probably spent as much in stock 500 cylinders and pistons to match the price of the new and better ones. Getting old ones plated costs almost as much, with zero guarantee they'll not chip and flake off.

What I'm really most concerned about is the mission creep on my bike: "While I'm at it, might as well get the 1 piece crank, the JS pistons and rods, the BSA-style lifters, the beehive springs, and 6mm valve stems. And while the guides are out, I really should do that porting. Now that it's fast, well, those 4ls Grimecas sure look sweet." etc, etc, etc...

Indeed. It’s a tiny market. Respect to Andy for stepping up.
Yes. I hope a bunch of old Domi race bikes come out of the woodshed!

Don't see the need for the through bolts on 500, 600, 650s.
Nice but look a little too much like late 750/850 barrels for me.

Obviously !

Now, which of the JS cams are you going for ??
There's no hysterical-crying-with-sudden-self-awareness emoji.

Not sure which cam. Probably whatever goes best with the new Maxton suspension setup.

The "later fin profile" existed on the 88SS barrels, that matched the shape of the SS head, so the fin shape is ok, providing that's what you're building. The 7 fins and strengthening bottom fin might be unfavorable to the rivet counters, but I'd assume is necessary with the aluminum construction and through bolts. Also, it sounds like using the Commando casting (with through bolts) is saving a ton of money for the microniche of Norton 500s, so through bolts is what we get until the NOC/Andover mechanical drawings pissing match settles.

Honestly, my only real beef is no nikasil lining, but that might not be possible, given the iron liners are probably there to bring it down to 66mm.

If you indeed want the older barrel design, I very well might have a few totally usable non-SS barrels for sale in light of the instant and exponential budget increase of my project. A genuine new old stock 88SS crank as well. Everything must go!
