I vote bad Earth paths the most common show stopper.
Gunk in clutch plates I'd think 2nd most common.
Amal Carb fasteners are my most common crapola on Trixie last couple years.

Corroded kill switch is an intermittent spark killer.
Amal chokes want to creep down due to vibration.
MK3 brake master cylinders are much too big diameter.
Too many different kinds of fasteners.

But I still love it.

It's always something. Two weeks ago, I replaced a turn signal with corroded connections and peeling plastic chrome then the bike wouldn't start. I put in a new battery and fresh plugs then the next day the speedometer cable breaks. I know I should put dielectric grease on all the connectors, but keep forgetting to. What will be next to need a repair?

LOL sounds decaying into crying out loud. Thankyoose for the shared reality check therapy. I have given up on signals so thankgoodness Combats didn't come with em. How's your rear peddle brake switches hanging eh?

me too Flo me too. How about messy oil on fins but no leaks at all from engine...

You guys are great. I have been banned for life from the local HD dealership for dripping oil on their pretty pavement (from a 1955 Harley). Old Sportster chains fit the brit bikes. Not much other reason for me to go there.

good thread Hobot

worst aggravations to me were the erratic timing and sticking of the auto advance

but even more than that was the absolutely horrible inability of even new Commandos to retain their idle settings, even after careful and knowledgable fiddling

it seemed back then, and I had five new Commandos, that the slightest change in air temperature or humidity would change the idle, later I learned a lot of this was due to the dissimilar rates of expansion of the "pot metal" used for the carb bodies and slides....

plug leads falling off the coil connections, exhaust nuts coming loose, peeling new chrome...

hate to say it but there were times I envied the guys who bought the Honda 750 Fours, electric start, great electrics, very few leaks, etc

If anyone ever did that to me, being as contrary as I am, I think my selective dyslexic wold kick in and I would read that say "Please park you bike in front of our building, we love to have you here."

tires wearing out.
I only get about 4 thousand miles from a TT100 on the rear, probably twice that from a front tire.

this is factually wrong

Combat motored 750s did indeed come with turn signals

the sales brochures for the Combats showed they were a "factory option"

and because by far most Americans wanted their new Norton to come with turn signals, the overwhelming majority of dealers ordered them with turn signals

Man I have never had these problems, in 37 years of ownership of my 850 I have only had one carbie manafold come lose, my Norton has always been oil tight sinse new and I think I have only experanced 2 nuts and bolt that ever came undone, but then I convered my Commando to a Wideline Featherbed frame in 1980  As for wiring the best thing I did was get rid of the orginal wiring and rewire with the lease amount of wire and connectors and have at lease 3 or 4 earth mounts connected together so it one fails the others will work.

okiedokie - then more accurately my current Combat did not come to me with signals and could of come that way legally from the factory. Personally I find signals highly over rated sense of security but running lights and bright brake lights do matter. So how much chrome layer can decay before one must run a dedicated Earth lead or buy another winker item?

The note was in front of a realators office who'd just used the bank issued note pad but it could just as well been the bank in our village. That was during Trixies air boot cracks that dissolved the ring gaps so blow by oil drip down returned home at stops. Oh yeah, that's another thing, rubber gaiters just don't seem to like the climate change or ozone hole or at least last as long as I remember they should. When Peel was clean and new they'd let me park in big Hotel entrances as decoration on their nice tiled drives. Good girls like Trixie go to heaven while bad girls like Peel go everywhere.
