Hi All, as a temp measure can I run the bike without the cable connected & not blanked off?

Not really, the oil will finds it's way out .

Some will leak, and some won't. If the oil seal modification has been done then oil shouldn't leak out.

Was speaking to someone a couple of days ago who had just pulled his drive off to do the seal mod, only to find that the previous owner had already done it but not cured the leak. Of course that may reflect most on the skills of the dreaded PO.

If the crankcase is being pressurized the seal mods are not too effective. That's been my experience. Installing a proper pcv valve will cure a lot of oil leaks on the Commando.
