Old Mary next door isn't up to this any more , do your own tests ya lazy git.

I think you might find Mary is up to more than you think. Ollie used to walk her dog but she doesn't like him anymore cos he didn't want to pay half for the fence replacement abutting her rear yard and his. So she told him to piss off and walk his own dog. I was yarning over the fence to her yesterday arvo before heading out to the magic mile. She said her lawn is getting hairy (a Highlands winter lawn description), she said she had a lovely old gentleman used to do it for her. Then she added, but the bastard dropped dead! Mary is mid 80's, great to see her so spritely and she is definitely eyeing off the Nortons in my carport.

I know this thread is getting very long and (much to hobot's disgust) I haven't even swapped a wheel yet to start the elimination process. But weather and bathroom reno's have been the issue. Yesterday on the Fastback down the magic mile, I was trying to pin point just what instability I am thinking about. The bike does nothing wrong but just has a sense of not being rock solid over 70mph, I know it sounds extremely obscure. How do you look for an issue you can't even define? I hate electrical problems but even they are easier to trace because the bike either runs properly or it doesn't.

Jim C's two head steadies have arrived so they (or at least the Fastback) may be the next swap after the rear wheel size. That 18 incher at the back is really getting on my goat now. Ever since Time Warp made the tail dragger comment, it's been pissing me off. I saw it too, but I didn't need anyone else to also notice it! I've now got six TT100's, anyone need a hardly used 18 incher?

auldblue, no more pictures like the last one of that pretty girl waiting in Les' front yard. It's very distracting (for Les especially).

I'll bet everyone can now see what Time Warp saw. The bastard had to go public didn't he?!

The wheel size difference certainly is obvious and just looks wrong for a start.

Jeez I'd hate to be Les, awake 24/7 with his finger paused over the delete button every time I post.

Well...this was the most focused motorcycle forum I was on, the rest start getting into posting unrelated pictures with 'witty' captions and usually descend into name calling.
I do wonder about the moderator censorship though.....

Did you know....your not supposed to put sidecars on airhead BMW's due to the frame not being up to it? So says the wisdom of the net.
Fortunately It did not exist in 1990 when I put a sidecar on my R75/5 and headed off from London to the Artic Circle in Norway.
Somehow doubt a Commando would have done the job :p

Sorry, nothing to do with Nortons but I'm still laughing about something Mary said to me yesterday re partners. She lost her husband years ago. She said, at my age there is nothing much on the market at all. And she said if you find one, it's usually short term and your out in the market again.

I suggested perhaps she should consider becoming a cougar. She said I would but I haven't got enough money to attract any of those young studs!

Well 72, they've been fitting chairs to Beemers for a long time. By airhead do you mean the R-259 oil head? I guess you must. I agree with you, I think a Commando would not hack it. And wobbling and weaving? You get enough of that on a normal rig! Perhaps the two could cancel each other out.

Now don't go picking on Les, he can only work within the forum rules. And most of us forum pests know the rules, most times anyway.

Sorry about pictures , funny comments etc the only thing more irritating is half a story.

So what was ye doing going from London to the arctic circle in an outfit, after all it's not like nipping out for a loaf of bread.

Interested from Ipswich

And, "rules" can, if necessary, be changed.......

Seems I might need to use that post delete button again fairly soon.

I'm not allowed to post on "electric start" anymore, but I noted something interesting. Concours said he starts his (or any I guess) Commando standing on the right of the machine and kicking with his left leg. There is only one other person I know who does this, me.

Being left handed/legged I got into the habit way back in Dominator days and it stuck. It's fine until you konk out at the lights. Imagine konking out on an old beemer with the 90 degree kick start lever?! You'd need a swivel knee joint to sit on the bike and start it at the same time. Or perhaps the hitch hiker sitting in your chair could stand up and do it for you. That's if you are sensible enough to live in a country where the chair is on the left (i.e. the right, as in correct) side of the bike. Or was it the other way around?

I was told by Sonia running my gym her ex husband suffered a severe kick back and his knee put a dent in the tank. Probably put a dent in his knee as well!

My lil beemer doesn't even have a kick starter (that I've found) so I'm not tempted to try it.

out of 226 post 157 of them are by Phil Yates and Auldblue between them, when does it become deemed a private conversation and they be advised to "get a room" if you like???
Many people seek valuable info on this forum, members and otherwise worldwide some might be intrested in stability, and then be lumbered with this drivel to find no informative info on the subject matter whatsoever, if more posts were allowed to deviate so much the forum would no longer be a first port of call for many!! I am a member of bandit forums as well as a few others and none can currently hold a light to the quality of information available from the respected members here. The usual suspects with the valuable words of wisdom are currently noted by their abscence from this thread!!! just sayin!

Then I guess you're saying you are not a usual suspect with words of wisdom, or you wouldn't be in this topic. High speed stability is a DEADLY serious topic and that's how I started it you will hopefully note. I've taken on board earlier comments and suggestions on the matter. But the weather has had me stuffed to proceed at this point in time.

Just be patient.

Being only in my fifth decade and probably fitting into the younger members list, I rely heavily on men who fettled these machines first time around, whilst I was drooling at them from behind my Mums apron. I've had the bike for 24 years during which time it has mostly been on the road but not without some protracted periods layed up, the thing with a Commando is mechanically wise your pretty much on your own and a lot of the old boys that worked on them in the dealers back in the day are now getting to the "coffin dodgin" stages of life, so the internet, this forum especially must have helped to keep hundreds of Commandos on the road, whereas due to your obsession in posting rubbish, it's probably helped keep yours in the shed!

There are always plenty of other threads to look at, though. :)

I read all the posts with an open mind. Sometimes there are some strange ideas chucked around, however if it keeps you happy, go for it. Nothing worse that a forum when everyone walks away.

Granted, but if habitual posters work their way through the forum like a computer virus, sorting the wheat from the chaff would need a degree in agriculture!! especially to a newcomer.

Must have me confused with someone else. I just straddle it, prod the kicker like a 125 dirt bike. No drama.

So, should we ban them? And who gets to decide?

I'm not for banning anyone and our poster probably has lots of info to let out to the forum over time, I'm all for getting more Commandos on the road. I used to frequent the N.O.C. forum but there is a typical "No Nay Never", and "Don't want to do it like that"!! attitude when anyone tries to deviate from the norm, then you come here where people are fitting superchargers, lambda sensors and efi, cartridge forks, etc.etc. it's a breath of fresh air, but it shouldn't be a drop in centre for lonely souls! I'm starting to sound like Victor Meldrew now, sorry if my posts offend anyone, just ignore me. I've obviously got out the wrong side this morning! :?

Don't worry, brxpb, your just fine.

LAB, maybe if enough people respond to you and Jerry by PM, the descision will become clear. I am sure you have recieved many complaints so far.

I just think he must be someone's brother or cousin or something like that.

I have offered to donate to the "refund Phil's VIP membership" fund, pro rated of course.

Keeping it clean here, boss.

Yes. I don't need to pm it but if you would like me too I can.
This forum has turned into crapfest.
I note that members of high regard don't post so often nor chime in with their opinions or the much valued advice because a couple of fools, driven only by self interest and a need for self appreciation quickly turn any thread of remote value into a clusterfuck of useless horseshit and irrelevant personal picture posting.
It's like watching two bipolar grandads dating.
Pull the pin, cut our losses and in time things may just get back to normal and the wise may return to what once was a wealthy space for them to share information and guide us lesser (and younger) folk for future generations when they are gone.
We had one village idiot, wisdom masked in riddles. It worked.
Now? Bipolar grandad long distance internet dating site.

Get on the back of a bike with him. No , that would not be a good idea phil. Stick to being your own pilot mate, that's my motto anyway,

J

Regarding the Commandos, no way will anyone ever ride one of them anyway. I definitely don't allow that. They are too precious a machine to let be ridden by anyone else. I still haven't swapped the 18" rear to the 19", just haven't had time. phil

What, you still haven't tried that 19incher yet. How long has it been since Hobot and I suggested it. Have you noticed Hobot hasn't made many comments lately? Ever wondered why? I have had difficulty fing dry weather lately to test my headlights. That's my excuse. Whats yours. Come on, it only take 5 minutes to swap over the wheels.[ and that's with one finger up ya bum. ]
But seriously, we want to know if is will make a difference. Might help others to not make that mistake.
all the best. Dereck
