Commando High Speed Stability

it is quite amusing how people have been banned in the past (belt drive man, and a few others) for their views around bikes and their somewhat argumentative posting styles (but still adding some technically insight) yet now we get a forum that is bombarded hourly with racist BS / facebook style posting with little/no norton content (or even vintage motorcycle info) from this twit and a few of his mind-numbing minions -

i'm with pete, i got a 5'er to throw into the send facebook phil over to the BMW forum so he can bloviate over there

So, should we ban them? And who gets to decide?

How about the voting membership. Majority rule.

We don't have a voting membership as such, do we, and to introduce a system where members can vote out other members would be up to Jerry.

these two previous posts are probably echoed by a lot of forum members

because a couple of fools, driven only by self interest and a need for self appreciation quickly turn any thread of remote value into a clusterfuck of useless horseshit and irrelevant personal picture posting.

Hello

Last time I checked in a democracy we have a right to speak in out own defence and confront our accusers.

In the land of the internet are my posts offensive , or maybe I think a bit of fun doesn't do any harm
I am certainly not going to verbally abuse anyone on the internet, that would be pathetic.

J

It seems to me the Access Norton forum is less and less about things Norton technical lately. I suppose it is what it is, but I have noticed a drop off of some of the members I consider having some real valuable information.

As for incorrect advise and info, I think it would be a real challenge for a newbie to separate the wheat from the chaff. I'm certain an inexperienced Norton owner that finds this forum would check to see how long a contributor has been a member and/or the number of posts the member has made and consider those posts words of wisdom. We know that to be far from the truth. Some where out there is a newbie who still can't figure out why his Commando won't do 150 mph and blast past modern liter Superbikes like a certain Commando owner claims.

A Forum is not a democracy. It is funded, owned and maintained by a private entity who manages its content.

I was only half serious. I really don't want to go there.

Get on the back of a bike with him. No , that would not be a good idea phil. Stick to being your own pilot mate, that's my motto anyway,

J

Regarding the Commandos, no way will anyone ever ride one of them anyway. I definitely don't allow that. They are too precious a machine to let be ridden by anyone else. I still haven't swapped the 18" rear to the 19", just haven't had time. phil

What, you still haven't tried that 19incher yet. How long has it been since Hobot and I suggested it. Have you noticed Hobot hasn't made many comments lately? Ever wondered why? I have had difficulty fing dry weather lately to test my headlights. That's my excuse. Whats yours. Come on, it only take 5 minutes to swap over the wheels.[ and that's with one finger up ya bum. ]
But seriously, we want to know if is will make a difference. Might help others to not make that mistake.
all the best. Dereck

You and hobot suggested it and I agreed to do it. Maybe hobot is on holidays or on other topics, I have no idea. Hadn't even thought about it. I am very keen to try the swap as it may or may not eliminate one possibility. Apart from high speed riding in near zero temps, swapping wheels out in the open in a cutting wind is not appealing. I have no shed or garage yet. Having said that, I am still riding the Fastback most days, even at night. But it is local town riding, not heading out into the country and blasting down the magic mile at 100mph. I'm hopeful it will be the difference and I believe acotrel is right regarding subtle changes having subtle effects on handling. It's definitely not tyres (as some suggested) as they are common between Fastback and Roadster, so there will be no changing those except both will later be fitted up front with 3.60's for other reasons. I can't help you with testing headlights in dry weather, that's one for hobot.

Bare with me, I promise I will report back soon. But no one is going to come a cropper over it in the meantime, it's not that big a deal. It's a slight variation in feel difference between Fastback and Roadster. There are other differences too, but they will be addressed one by one.

All the best to you too,
phil

I would hasten to point out that 'beltdriveman' hasn't been banned from this particular forum.

i stand corrected -
shame as i admired his accumulation of knowledge - guess he just got tried of all the shit throw his way (or perhaps passed away as i think he was an older gentleman & he sort of fell off the map on all forums)

Probably still about, as he only joined this forum last February.

Mike

Better to burn out, than fade away.

Do you fancy a wee speed test you and me ?

J

I would like to point out one observation.

High speed stability is dependent on a balance of many factors. To point out these factor is not as relevant as the fact that these intricacies are rarely, if ever, duplicated from one machine to another. They may be similar yet can vary depending on something as simple as the weight of the rider (170 vs 230lbs). Any standard should be considered as a starting point.

The tire pressures, alignments, iso adjustments and many other aspect, are up to each individual owner to sort out to bring the best high speed stability available for their Norton Commando.

Simply put, it's personal.

Pete

Your invited also, I never take anything personal.

J

We all have commandos Pete and Mike have 750's as have I ,does anyone fancy a speed test.

I have had enough of this thread/ topic.

Phil & Co- please try to keep things 100% Norton related. Les and I are fed up with complaints from members. Phil I PM'd you too.

Locking this thread. Don't start another bitch thread.
