Commando Frames

There is an aspect which you might need to consider when buying a frame - the height of the motor. A Commando motor is taller than many others.

What part of 'Commando frames' thread is having anything to do with fitting a Commando engine to a none Commando frame.

I was once contemplating building another bike. I looked at a Commando frame. They might work, but they are bloody appalling.

Is this a Commando frame ?
As @Matt Spencer showed in post#8, It is the frame of an Atlas Scrambler (so - Matchless)

Re Commando frames - they've stood the test of time and were remarkable in their day so what's "appalling" to you is "appealing" to many, many others.
Not surprising really.

Funny how Al keeps beating the same drum !

Hondas were Appaling , on anything but a ' prepared surface ' . you wouldnt dare lead one into a corner at speed on the kiwi highways , Rural .

Tho MOST of it is the RIDER . A Bike that RIDEs not DRIVES . I believe they said . A kackersaki 900 at the ton on gravel ? pull the other one . MATE .

COMMANDO originated in the Pre slick ( tyre ) Era . whereafterits another story . But youll notice the Norton F 750 / J P N INFLUANCE , in dewcatis
rice burners and suchlike for DECADES .
Pity the tossers wernt more ordered in their administration .
Big nast kwacker from 96 odd, resembled the the NORTON fairing No end . TWO DECADES after ! Pity the Norton Turkeys didnt get the Bridge Frame
from williams thing sorted as a PRODUCTION frame . Like the F1 duke ati .
WITH a lectronic anti over RPM ign cuttoff , the Commando Motor woulda bin fine ( and it wouldnt rust ) . It was 8.000 on the Combats ( which some DID )
which wasnt an entirely good idea . The 500 Domiracer ran 8 , as did the Short stroke . So it wasnt unobtainable however .

A Commando Frame was a simple inexpensive mass production EFFICENT contraption that out snotted all the rivals , bar Triumph ( with its oil tube trackmaster Copy )
and those Italians .
Which were lunatics .
The japanese were just insane .

Commando Frames

Id looked at his face for a day or two after I found this . Doing THAT , THERE , i realised
explained his lack of ecstasy at that particular point . THAT is 50 horse , odd .
on those tyres & a ' single plane loop ' frame , with irregular suspension .
Morrie Lowe , rode the grand prix circuits . kiwi . Len Perry " Thats morries old bike "
looking at MY Triton engine . tiss too , intakes match . Olde earthmoving rad. Hose .

Its the MOTORCYCLE thats NEVOUS & UNCERTAIN . Needs a firm hand . and no indecisevnous . AT SPEED
120 m.p.h. + . Bottom of Bray Hill . ? 1955 I.o.M. a std Commando'd be similarly uncertain emulateing THAT .

That I believe is a tooned ' R ' T100 dirt track racemotor . On a Commando , a similar uncertainty
would be apparent , past the ton . 120 there , suspension loaded . KNIFE EDGE willit BITE .
Like wootcher get at speed on irregualr surfaces. At the Limit .
" Oh No " the Space Frame was Another thing Altogether " asking P.W. on the sterring comparison
Commando P.R. to F-750 . So you dont have to take MY word for it .
Id asked him if He'd followed the Trident in Production , to have something of a aiming point ,
to STEER AT , ahead . that raissed a smile .

A Commando has good balance , but the Italian chassis were MUCH STIFFER as is the Oil Toob Triumph frame .
So there . Amazing how well it works for something so rudimentry . Like I said , a 7R / G 50 rip off , modified ?
Visually its a uprated version but off lesser expense . :p .

Describing a commando frame as appalling, without any context, is ridiculous. Then when you are known to repeat that 1 liner, which alone means nothing, you are then also known for repeating irrelevant absurdities, to say the least.

With a few clicks, anyone can see
===================================
When was the last Norton Commando made?
1977

In the next decade over 55,000 were sold, with Commando named Motor Cycle News' Machine of the Year for five successive years. As Japanese bikes became increasingly more popular, many great British marques were driven to the brink of extinction. The last Commando was produced in 1977.Oct 29, 2021

Last i heard, you could still buy brand new

The unique beginnings of a brilliant vibration isolating system, that was then largely adapted to Harleys

Finding out the rich history, the who & what was involved in the making of the commando, is all out there, a few clicks away to anyone, for fascinating reading

Then there is dude who likes to repeat (prob decades+now) , frame sucks, gimme a break lmao

Not only did Al fail to provide context, you also have to factor in that he has never owned one !

Plenty of people have proven the Commando frame on the race track, past and present.

Compared to other production bike frames, especially those of the day, the Commando frame is a very elegant, minimalist, and effective design.

Frankly, calling it appalling is just (successful) click-bait.
