Commando Choppers please

It could always be moved to "other Nortons" section, as they are no longer Commandos...

Once we've irradticated these undesirable 'non functionals' this newly cleansed site can then be re-named "Access Functional Norton's". The exiled can the start another forum called "Access All Norton's" ...

Well said.

But the title of the post is "commando choppers please" it's in the correct section already

Maybe renaming the title of the thread to 'Commando Choppers - no thankyou' would sort it all out?

Seriously though, I actually quite enjoy seeing some of the ideas people come up with, plus there's no denying that some of the engineering is clever.

Funny..... I know a LOT of guys who ride their bodged, dangerous, customized, stereotypical "Harldy-Albesons" .

However, the majority of vintage british bike owners that I know rarely (if ever) ride their bikes.
Polishing, bench racing, restoring, reminiscing about "back in the day", posting on the web, spending money on farkles, ETC..... everything but riding them.

I propose that if anyone must banned from the site....
let's make it the closed minded anal retentives who think that their way is the only way to enjoy a motorcycle.

What's farkles ??

A farkle is any Hardly Ferguson accessory, be it a chrome plated nipple feather duster to a custom food bowl for your dog. A H-D g string for your mama through to coloured streamers for your handlebar ends. You can get a huge array of farkles at your local Hoggly Doggly dealership, I mean masturbatory marketing exercise.

So, Mark, you know lots of people who ride H-Ds, but this particularly putrid thread is about choppers. Not the same.

Or maybe "Once beautiful Nortons which have been rendered useless and ugly to satisfy someone's inner need to masturbate publicly".

We'd better leave now, Martha, they're going to be rolling on the floor in a minute...

This thread must be maintained! If for no other reason than it captures part of the history of Nortons. Lots of stock Commandos were chopped because they didn't meet the needs of their owners. Some done nicely, most done badly.
Now a bunch of old guys have lovingly restored them back to stock. And soon, they will go up for sale, and a new generation of riders will chop, modify, and bob them into a modern version of a chopper, kind of like this one: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/exqu ... 57357.html
What was old is new again. Get used to it.

CNW chopper

Or, a pre CNW Matt special.

From the CL ad:
You won't find many chopped Nortons, especially one built by such reputable names as Denver Mullins (Denver's Choppers, San Bernardino CA) and Matt Rambow (Colorado Norton Works).

Matt purchased Denver's frame and originally built this bike as his personal ride in the early '70s. He used a 1969 750 cc Commando motor and the Denver's Choppers frame. He retained the stock isolastic system, which floated the engine/gearbox in rubber mounts to stop vibration from reaching the rider. Another unique feature is its Morris cast wheels, usually seen on more sporting customs.

Exquisite bobber!!! Is whoever wrote that serious???? What a wanker. Another Norton sitting in the living room, unridden, as he cleans the semen off it weekly and polishes it lovingly.

Commando Choppers please

Nice to see another white chop, the first version of my Norton was white pearl, pretty cool (well at least in-76). But I don´t see an oil tank on this machine? How does that work?
Tommy

The spine tube is used as the oil tank. Look just ahead of the fuel tank. A line goes to the tube, about a third of the way down the head stock. I have a bike with the same Mod. The chopper was given to me. At first I thought "parts bike", but she has grown on me.

Shame Freud is no longer with us, he'd be fascinated by your constant linking of motorcycles and masturbation ...

I'm in agreement with Fullauto,,,
These things don't make any sense to me at all.
How do they go around a corner or bend?
Obviously it's done for a reason but I have no clue what the reason is??

The debate isn't about whether or not we like them (I don't either).

The debate is about:

Are those who do like them right to use this forum to share their posts with each other...

Or are such topics to be 'banned' because others don't like them...?

The original post was done tongue in cheek whilst laughing away merrily to myself. It got the desired response. However, let's look at the chopper thing. When modifying a motorcycle, being a Commando or not, one would normally seek to improve performance, be it in handling, comfort, braking or engine performance. When you turn a Norton into a chopper, what improvement are you making in these characteristics? Not engine performance. Certainly not handling or braking and definitely not comfort. Especially with a rigid frame. Now, this leaves only one thing, that, in the eyes of the owner, that he is achieving.

Looks!

It gives it a certain look. So, the modifier is prepared to sacrifice all of the usual measures of a good motorcycle for one thing only. Hence, the masturbation. Not only is it personal. away from prying eyes in the shed where secret fantasies are fulfilled, but the bike must be taken out occasionally to bask in the glory of public adulation. Only occasionally, because it's not a practical machine to ride, hence, the owner wishes to share the fantasy.

Hence, the owner is an exhibitionistic, masochistic, public masturbator. Stands to reason. Anybody care to refute my logic?
