If Engine not a parallel twin canted forward on isolatics its not Commando related and another repelling similar art for art rebellion of mass of stuck on atermarket parts. If you have not ridden a righteous chopper its a treat feeling like rebellious boot forward cruise through life, silly and obnoxious and dangerous looking is part and parcel so not for the sedate folks worried about public opinion.

Commando Choppers please

Well ... the front end is Norton Commando 8) ... and, it is "at least" a proper British vertical twin.

No battery, as I have a solid state regulator/rectifier/battery eliminator unit installed. Almost always starts first kick too. :)

That's one front end more Norton parts on that Triumph, than what Mike Seate has on his entire "Triton"

Excluding the factory version, Commando Choppers please
anyone got some nice rebellious against the grain righteous isolastic choppers to show ?
Molded frame would be extra icing on the cake to me.
No front brake extra points on style and flippant attitude statement.

This was my ride in the early -80:s, built it myself with some help from a couple of friends. A decent amount of Plastic Padding on this one...

Just more inspiration to blacksheep hobot, though I'd lower the tool poach.

Commando Choppers please

Nice to see another white chop, the first version of my Norton was white pearl, pretty cool (well at least in-76). But I don´t see an oil tank on this machine? How does that work?
Tommy

I think that if you plumb it just right you can use the transmission as your oil tank

My hat's off to you hobot, your mid-life physical condition must be great.

My lower back hurts just looking at PICTURES of choppers...

Jaguar, Isolastics only work if the swing-arm is connected to the engine/transmission cradle. If you set it up with isolastics on a rigid frame the chain will be vibrating at the same rate the engine is. I think you should just bolt the engine and transmission in solid. You could fill the isolastic tubes with some kind of solid bushing and that should do it. Or, you could modify the whole thing to have a "soft tail" type suspension that pivots on the engine/transmission cradle and be the first one ever!!
Have fun, Dan.

Early Commando Chopper project

Straight from a barn in NE Nebraska. Early Commando motor and tranny, no VIN on left case. Not ground off, just blank and unaltered. Im looking forward this this project.

Hey L.A.B. !! When are you going to consign this thread to where it belongs. The trash, that is. Reducing our beautiful Commandos to something that looks "cool" but takes away from their inherent rideability is shameful. Leave it to the Massey Ferguson/Davidson boys who live for the image of themselves looking "cool" in the shop windows as they pass, while on the monthly ride to meet up with their like minded pals to masturbate over whose bike looks "cooler". And nobody give me this shit about "Hey man, it's their bike, they can do what they want with it". You show me ONE of these mechanical abortions that actually gets ridden over any meaningful distances and I'll show you a masochistic, sexually perverted attention seeker. They appear on Flea bay all the time. "Just finished this cool custom. Must sell so I can move on to my next F**k up". So, if it's so fantastic, why are you selling it? Thought it was the bike of your dreams!

Bah!

I agree with what Ken has said. Turning any bike into a chopper usually destroys it's functionality. Many choppers are inherently dangerous, they simply give motorcycling a bad name. Even Japanese bikes should not be chopped. 'Because I can' is never a good reason for doing anything. The guys who get into that stuff are usually half-wits.

And here's me thinking that one of the joys of the motorcycling brotherhood is the respect for individuality!

Personally, I wouldn't touch any of those chops pictured with a barge pole...

But I take exception to the notion that they are to be banned, shunned, etc.

The idea that chops are bad because they do not focus on functionality is a preposterous statement on a forum like this... we're all into cantankerous / fickle old motorbikes NOT because they are perfectly functional, but because we like them.

If we were only interested in functionally, we would be riding some kind of hideous Japanese twist-and-go contraptions.

If chops are to be banned then I need to be banned too for making mine into a 'hot rod'. Jim Comstock absolutely must be banned, he has modified his Commando extensively in the name of functionality, but those mods aren't functionally required by most others, they are uneccessary modifications Jim... and you should be exiled sir.

Once we've irradticated these undesirable 'non functionals' this newly cleansed site can then be re-named "Access Functional Norton's". The exiled can the start another forum called "Access All Norton's" ...

Yes, yes, I know, but with 26 pages (so far) the thread has obviously generated some interest to get that many replies, therefore I don't honestly think I should delete it now but you could always try appealing to a higher authority (Jerry)? :)

They should definitely be banned ,I would go further I would ban all owners that don't have a high enough IQ also if they are not blonde haired and blue eyed they should not be allowed to own one, also the tyres must be filled with the original air that it left the factory with!!!, Or simply don't read what you don't like !!!, I'm happy to talk to anyone riding any bike myself but that's just me
