I'd like to upgrade my electrics and wondered if by replacing the 2 6v coils with one 12v would be a noticable difference? On my 850 commando

If your 6v coils don't have one-foot in the grave - and the coil's all you're changing - the simple answer is no, you won't notice any difference. They aren't the bottleneck in the ignition system.

I'll let the EE wizards fill you in on the technical details, as I am unqualified to go any further. (DynoDave, that's your cue..)

I've done the mod myself and like the cleaner, simpler wiring/appearance. (Please excuse the condition of the bike, this photo is from last November's tear-down for a complete rebuild.)
