CNW starter kit

If you are using propane torch, it will not get hot enough, fast enough (in this application).
Go to Lowes, get a MAP torch.
If you have oxy/act rosebud you have plenty of heat - fast enough.

With your puller at full tension and while applying heat give the pullers center bolt sharp, not hard, raps with a hammer. It may take repeated raps before it comes off. I usually snug things up, give it a couple of raps, then give the center bolt another bit of muscle, then back to the hammer raps. It has never failed to work. I do give my crank end a lite smear of never seize. It helps in future removals

puller + hammer on puller center bolt has always worked for me; never needed heat for that particular job. But my experience is that if it gets to that point, the flame wrench is undefeated in such contests! :)

I tried all of the above with no luck. I finally hit the sprocket close to the engine shaft using a brass drift and hammer with tension on the sprocket puller.

I got the thing off. I should have removed the belt by moving the trans forward but it was a bitch to adjust in the first place due to the starter, breather and rocker line in the way. Beside I was just pissed this morning so I put the heat to it again and torqued the breaker bar with all my might and it popped off.
I melted the belt to it so now the sprocket is all covered in belt crap. The damn sprocket still was hitting the seal. You can see the rub marks on the backside of the sprocket.
So it looks like another few weeks of waiting for parts from CNW. I freaking give up!

Guido, we’ve all been there...

And I know you know this already, so please forgive the reminder...

Working on your bike in that frame of mind seldom results in progress. Best to:

“lock the shop, walk away... come back another day”.

Really sorry to hear about the trouble. I am currently in Sweden taking care of some family stuff but will get a hold of you as soon as I return to the shop at the end of this week. Will get you all that you need to make it all work for you

Matt

YEP! There are some days where it becomes immediately obvious that the mechanical gods are backing the machinery, not the mechanic! On those days, it's best to just acknowledge it and come back the following day.

CNW will, I am sure, straighten the issue out. But I would be equally PO'd over it. For me the most frustrating thing is to be stuck on a project while waiting for someone else to correct something - whether it's missing parts, wrong parts, whatever...

E-start is a fabulous addition to the Commando (I have the Alton). Yeah, I know, a lot of folks brag about their 1-kick Commandos (mine was one) and pooh-pooh the "need" for E-start. But kick starting a Commando in your driveway is a much different deal than having the bike stall in traffic and having everyone honking at you while you try to re-light the fire. Yeah, I've heard the "I never stall my bike, you obviously don't know how to ride" statements too. I figure if someone has never stalled their motorcycle, they don't ride it. ;)

If anyone wonders why the Japanese overwhelmed the BrittBike industry in the early '70's, that start button is one of the major factors! They certainly didn't do it with better handling!

Here's wishing a very quick resolution!

Well, it's Monday and I have calmed down. Sometimes you feel like you will never got out from under the dark cloud that has been following you.
Today I will send the sprocket back the Matt so it will be there when he comes back. Like I said, Matt has been great. I just needed to vent. It was never about anyone but my dumb luck.
