I have just removed my chaincase and ancillary gubbins to enable me to replace the crankshaft seal which has started to leak slightly. There’s nowt worse than an oil leak from a dry clutch.

It was while is removing and replacing all the necessary bits and pieces that I was able to have a long look at everything involved when fitting Matt’s magnificent starter system.

It seems such a shame that this piece of excellence has to be hidden away for no one to see and marvel over.

Nothing to stop you from taking a stock primary cover and opening it up until next to nothing is left.

A very nice kit indeed, but way out of my budget so my art of kicking my bike to life has to last me for as long as I can, so far coming up to 50 years of kicking my Norton and the Joe Hunt helps making things a lot easier with the folding T160 kicker and well-tuned Amals all play a role for easy of putting a fire in my motor, being retired and living on a budget $5,500+ is a lot of money to spend on one upgrade, but having the knack and a good right knee/leg it has to see me out.

Well if you ever find that amount spare, I can vouch just how easy it is to fit, and how amazingly well it works.

Don't get me wrong if I ever needed one fitted it be the system I would go for, I spent a lot of money over the years on upgrades on my Norton when working but I been retired since I was 55 years old (that was 12 years ago) and I have a push button Thruxton as well.

What always amazes me is the time and engineering that went into developing this system..My hats off to all that were involved.

I am curious. Is the sprague lubed for life? I have one on my Alton.
Seems like an idea that IF one pulls it all apart, it would not hurt to clean the sprague and pack, say third to 1/2 (?) of the
inner one way bearing part, with an ultra sticky tacky grease? In the Alton world, any excess would work its way out into the chaincase oil but in the CNW world, excess coming out not a good idea as perhaps it gets on the belt?
I have hear many conflicting things about sprague lubing. Some have said to spray dri-lube into it instead of grease.

I admire the machining and look of the CNW. It is done right.

Carpet is a great idea!!
I have been laying down 5 x 10 scrap carpet on the shop floor for many years. Its easier to crawl around on and when you drop that little washer or special fastener it just lays there instead of scooting across the shop floor and hiding under the tool chest or behind work bench.

The sprag has seals on both sides.(CNW unit)

Seals on both sides is good. The Alton sprague has no seals but I guess it does not
need as the chaincase oil splash will dribble down and reach it. Somehow I like the idea of
lubing it if I open it up!
