Hi Les, just to confirm that is with the cable not connected to the gearbox operating arm and with the internal cable pulled against the outer?

My cable is on the bench and mine clearly has 95mm of free cable from end of ferrule to centre of barrel nipple

so i have to guess all the free play i have is just how it is..

It does seem longer than a "new" cable should (or needs to) be.

You could shorten it to desired length , not that difficult if you can solder ....good luck
 
Thankfully i can... i have plenty of silver solder, just need some Stainless flux
I will be speaking with AN in the morning over the free play length

Note it isn't laid out straight so could be a few mm longer.
Another old cable I have measures about 94mm.

Another reference point:
My used spare 51" cable has free length of 92mm.
I suppose a used inner cable can stretch a bit?

Spoke with AN earlier,. the clutch cable free play should be 3 1/2"= 89mm + - 10%..so mine is towards the upper end of the tolerance at 95mm
I think I'll defo be re-positioning the soldered nipples

or make or buy an unobtainable cable spacer. . . .

Your measurement was to the nipple centre which is more than the 'free length'.

AN requested the measurement was taken at the gearbox end of the cable from the end of the cable ferrule (Not the step down in diameter) to the upper face of the pear nipple... so yes my free play is 91mm
Obviously the way i was measuring this yesterday to the centre of the barrel nipple was open to experimental error
 
To further muddy the water as they say, the internal lever hits the inside of the cover so it will never return to its lowest position....Dremel time

Doesn't it bother you that something is wrong? Nobody else has had this problem - is your gearbox special somehow?

Could be due to the "Atlas operating arm".

I have also done this with the Commando arm it touches
Taken off the pedestal as this was replaced, everything appears in order, put the old one back & tested with both Atlas & Commando arms... it still touches
The only thing that has also been changed is the cover.
Put back on the pre-Commando cover,,,, i have clearance
I'm in Yeovil on Friday so plan to take the cover back to AN... i could easily dress this off with the Dremel but I'd probably invalidate the warranty.
