Clutch Cable Spacer at Gearbox

My Mark 3 does not have such a spacer (maybe I discarded it unintentionally at some point?), and as a result, i have to back off the handlebar adjuster to it's max length, which is just barely enough.

If I could add a spacer, say 1/2" where the clutch cable enters the gearbox, life would be sweeter.

I don't see this spacer in any parts diagrams on Andover Norton or OldBritts.

Does anyone have a part number or other details on this mysterious spacer?

Or does it not exist after all?

Thanks.

There isn't any spacer at the gearbox end.

Thanks for the quick response.

I did a search on the forum before I posted my question, and saw a couple of comments regarding a spacer at the end of the cable, where it enters the gearbox (post was "Clutch cable lenght inner and outer"

Mario,

Do you have the spacer at the end of the cable where it goes into the gearbox? If that's missing, you'll get about 1/4" or more less travel from the inner cable. I can't find a picture, but I can take one of mine later. I don't see that part in any of the books.

Either he was referring to the metal end of the cable sheath itself, or someone had fabricated a spacer to fit.

In either case, I just cut a piece off an old throttle cable and tweaked it a bit so i can use it as a spacer.

However..... when i took off the gearbox outer cover inspection cap, i realized the lockring on the clutch operating body and lever had come loose. I'll address this issue first, and maybe won't need the spacer after all.
Thanks again

you can adjust the clutch diaphram center stud/locknut inward which pushes the clutchrod inward. That will make your clutchrod engage the cable arm earlier and take up slack in the cable, so you can then loosen the cable adjuster on your handlebar lever so it's not completely at the end of it's adjustment. HTH

The Atlas has the clutch cable slack adjuster on the gearbox outer cover.
There is no adjuster at the handlebar end though.
