Hi gents
All the photos i see show the clutch cable routing from the gearbox cover plate forward of the rear iso tube...
But my cable wants to exit behind the tube as making it exit forward is putting quite a "kink" into it
I know i have a odd machine, but even with a worn primary chain, is the cable routing behind the Iso tube normal??

Thank you

No. The cable has to come down from above to be straight into the gearbox.

A pre-Commando gearbox outer cover, perhaps?

Good question Les, and to be honest i don't know.
Been off sick for several weeks, so only just starting to get back into the workshop.
I'll take a photo & post for your perusal and thoughts:)

With the actuator properly aligned, the ferrel sitting flat, it should align in front of the ISO.
If the actuator is rotated forward, it shoots the cable back and the ferrel doesn't sit flat on the cover..
I just went through this.

Not sure what a Pre Commando cover would do.

on my 74, it seems the natural cable routing comes straight out of the gearbox, forward of the rear iso mount. having never seen the original configuration, I went into the routing somewhat blind, since I converted my bike back from hydraulic to control cable. can't see there was any other option.

Clutch Cable Routing

Mine goes through the front frame grommet, down beside the oil tank, behind the air filter plate and straight down. Well in front of the iso mount.

Clutch Cable Routing

Yup, that would do it.
Easy enough to compare.

...through the front frame grommet...

Yes it is the right way.

OK, am I to understand that with the factory routing, the cable runs through the frame grommet? as I said, I had no guide on the routing - just straddled the right side of the main frame tube. held in place with several zip ties. right, wrong, ???

Yes I had to re-route my C. Cable after the P.O. builder had run it through the big grommet hole. The only time I had seen that and I sensed it was incorrect. So pulled it out , fitted a new Venhill Featherlight beside the backbone tube and drove off into the sunset.

Thanks Les, I'll check mine out this afternoon as the consensuc is pretty clear I have something a miss ....I do know that the cover has no tapping within the the entry hole...so whether this has been drilled out at some point??
I'll take some pics & post
Thanks gents

I'm pretty sure that mine went through the grommet from new.
