I am having problems getting the clutch adjuster nut off. I am trying to install some barnett clutch plates. Everything turns when I try to loosen it. I now think I have wobble and play in the basket. I am keeping the rear wheel still, the bike is in 4th, what am I doing wrong? I have read a great deal of past posts and maybe I am missing it.

Impact wrench. If you don't have one, use a big screwdriver in the clutch spring slots to hold it.

and if you don't have an impact wrench then you can shock that nut to turn with a hammer rap on your socket wrench to get moving

Hankmarx, once you get it off, here is a mod I did , although not for everyone.
Slot the head of the adjuster bolt at right angles to the existing slot, you end up with a crucifix shape, drill a small hole between 2 x flats on the both sides of the lock nut, tack weld the lock nut with a TIG to the pressure plate centre, (make sure you use a 1/2" UNF old bolt screwed into the centre boss with the nut 'nipped' tight to line the threads up)then in stead of all that mucking around with trying to get the clutch to grip and using an impact driver, adjust the screw for your fine adjustment, then use a piece of lock wire to trap the adjuster screw. Next time you need to adjust or remove, just snip the lock wire and remove.

Took 2 seconds with the wrench, Thank Ya'll for the help. May have more questions tomorrow.

Be warned, published torque spec for clutch hub nut is WRONG... Should be 40 ft. lb., not 70.
