A lot of the time when riding I find myself putting my feet back on the passenger pegs; it's more comfortable than the knees-in-my-face feeling with the stock Commando pegs/controls. Of course, if I need to use the gearbox or rear brake, I have to shift back. So I was kicking around the idea of getting the Clubman rear set. Are they a good choice for this purpose or would some other brand be better? I have the Euro standard bars on the bike.

I have a set on my Combat roadster and they are Ok for the value. The end caps are a little cheep looking, but everything else is good. You have to drill out two holes on the “Z” plates to make this system fit. So if you want to reverse engineer the foot pegs back to the OEM setup then you will need to helicoil those holes that you will drill out. They are comfortable with a low European bar.
Cheers.

I got the Clubman rearsets after I also got tired of riding with my feet back on the passenger pegs. I also think feet back on those pegs is very unsafe...when shit happens quickly and you need to get on both brakes, there's simply not enough time to shift your body back up and get on the front and rear brakes to avoid disaster.

As far as the Clubman's go...I can say that I'm happy with them...and the price was right (approx. $275 eBay) and IMO the quality is excellent. Went from sneakers to boots last year and was able to easily adjust to fit my new foot position. I would suggest picking up another clevis pin or two just in case you're 200 miles away from home an you lose one...yes, this happend to me but I made do with a couple of zip ties....I don't leave home without them!

One more thing, Mike...I installed the inline brake / stoplight cable I purchased from Fred & Ella (OldBrits). I know there's folks out there that don't like this system, but it's worked well for me and makes for a nice tight package. No problems in 4 years.

I don't know if it's much more unsafe than having your feet up on highway bars but I would think you wouldn't be riding like that if you where into traffic situations where you would have to react quickly. Having said that I was in the same situation and tried the rearset option and found it didn't work for me. I need to be able to move my body around for comfort reasons, (us older farts start to seize up you know), and found that the rearsets basically locked me into one seating position. I had to go back to the old set up after only a couple of weeks. Works for me.

Well, that's a good point but since I seem to be most comfortable on my Commando riding along with my feet on the pass pegs, I'm ASSUMING that a rear set would be more comfortable for me than the standard pegs AND have the controls at hand (so to speak). Though, of course with the oem and the pass pegs, there is a rather wide range of movement available. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if it will/won't work for me is to buy a rear set and try it.

I guess I'll spring for a Clubman, though I agree they could have done something a little nicer for the ends of the pegs. ;)
