Cleaning Clutch Plates

Brake / Clutch cleaner in a spray tin or when I'm on a big trip and do it at the side of the road, petrol!

Or boil them in two quarts of water with a box of baking soda stirred in.

NOT in a pot you ever want to cook in again.

I like soaking them and cleaning with "Simple Green" and the "Purple" degreaser (that sh*t eats aluminum and take ALL the oils out of you hands, so wear chemical resistant gloves or your hands WILL peel their skin in a couple of days - ask me how I know).

Used to soak them in petrol from the tank, then wipe them clean.
Now I usually wipe them with tissue soaked in cellulose thinners.

Solvent or detergent on bronze, but only detergent on composite or just drives oil deeper into pores.

Lacquer thinner or brake parts cleaner and a cotton cloth. Careful, the stuff is flammable and toxic.

I put on a pair of disposable plastic gloves ,wipe the plates clean with rag then brake cleaner spray as a final ,outdoors and upwind. The gloves limit contact with solvents and chemicals which are SO carcinogenic. About to order in R.G.M. belt kit and pushrod seal kit so to end doing this .

I know you didn't ask about fiber discs, but I am going through the primary today and just cleaned my fiber plates with 3-M High-power Brake Cleaner. I liked this stuff before, but I like it even more now!

I bought mine at NAPA.
