In theory, with the iso thrust faces parallel and each iso unit parallel to each other then the gap could be zero i.e not locked but the thrust washer free to rotate, and no vibration would be transmitted. I think the 0.010" (actually isn't the recommended gap 0.006") is to allow for production mis-alignment. The bearded wonder (L. Emery) states on his web site, that gaps of 0.025" (???) are req. to reduce unacceptable vibration. This must be due to 'Norvils' production mis-alignment. You don't mention that the earth, in proportion to it's spinning mass, dosen't have a very large reciprocating mass as do our Norton's, which, I would think, produce a much greater force than the rotating mass, thus cancelling out the effects of any 'wobble'. Or am I taking this too seriously?
 
Chandler's wobble is so slight its only possible to detect it in a smoothly spinning about perfectly supported object, such as orbiting planets but not combustion piston engines as each piston stroke's effect would over whelm Chandlers. Liquid core would tend to reduce wobble and similar to the rim half filled with mercury in some Harley flywheel balancing attempts or dyna beads in tires. The only thing common related between percession and Chandlers is they both occur in spinning objects and only if the objects are not well supported by essentially immobile fixing bearings. None the less neat thought proking thread, which does apply to the vibrations transmitted only while both Commando tires have left touch with the Earth.
 
So if we could mount the earth on isolastic mounts, the wobble of the poles would not be as noticeable, and we would no longer be bothered by pesky earthquakes and such?

but only if we fitted roller main bearings and a proper one way breather valve...
