Center stand spring

I need your guys help again with a very basic thing..........but I can't figure out what the center stand spring attaches to.
Been many years since I lost the spring ( just bungeed the stand up while riding) and I finally got a spring.
Just realized the stand I have right now is a home made one from a welder friend in early 80s (foggy)
I must have lost my centerstand sometime in the 70s (more foggy)

I see a small hole in the engine mount, just above the left bolt for the stand........?

I suspect the cross piece on the stand should have a hole? There isn't one now, I'd have to drill it.

As you said, there is a hole in the cross tube on the stand that one end of the spring goes into.
 
There was no hole on the centerstand for the spring on the early bikes. The hole your referenced near the cross tube is the correct hole.
