Several years ago, I replaced my center stand and spring. (What fun the spring was.) I am finding the spring apparently no longer holds the center stand in the full upright position. When leaving the house, I make sure the center is all the way up, but when I get to my destination I find the stand has sagged down about half way.

Do the springs loose tension that quickly and need to be replaced or should I look for something else?

It sounds like yours has.....

Be worth checking that all the pivot bolts are all still present and correct,
and that the spring is still correctly achored at each end.
And the stand still has a smooth swing down and swing up operation.

Not something to trifle with and leave unfixed either,
if the stand flops all the way down while cornering it could easily dig into the road,
and catapult you head-over-heels....

A spring does not lose its tension unless it is severely stretched, or subjected to excessive temperature, neither of which is likely in your case. I think Rohan has pointed you in a more likely direction for the cause of your center stand droop. Are you sure the spring is mounted correctly at each end?

I have removed the spring and attach the center stand to right-side swing arm with a strong velcro strap.
This is much more secure and less likely to cause a catastrophe when riding.
i have a side-stand that I use 99% of the time, but the center stand is useful when doing work on the bike.

I have my pivot bushes/bolts/washers all fit tight, it takes heel up pressure on the tab to fully stow, the side benefit is it doesn't rattle/flop around with the engine vibration and wallow out the pivot hardware.

the spring has a habit of cutting the hole in the stand till it is through the tube. the best thing you can do is weld a reinforcing washer at the hole on a new one before installation.
