Center Stand Install Help?

It's been awhile since I removed my center stand... So I've forgotten where you connect the top of the spring? Also any tips on how to stretch the spring enough to install it properly would be greatly appreciated.

mount the spring then stretch the stand into place, then insert bolts. Stand in the "up" & spring relaxed position, of course

I need to install mine too. It should have been one of the first things I did during the rebuild because putting it back on a built bike is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

If you follow "chasesa"'s advice it's really not that bad... Took about ten minutes to do mine.

Done a couple this year, and the method I use is - fit the spring to the stand and cradle. Jam the arms of the stand up onto the cradle. Attach a strong cord, I use electric cable to the middle bar of the stand. Loop and tie the other end of the cord around the forward end of the back wheel. Gently move the bike backwards. The cord will pull the stand rearwards. I use a small trolley jack to keep the stand upward in line with the bolt holes as it slides back on the cradle. When its poised, I adjust the final alignment with a round bar as a lever. Then insert the shouldered bushes (850) and bolts and its done. No sweat no tears.

Good advice above guys. Thanks. Too bad my lift is broken. :cry: I need to step up to the plate and buy a proper lift. The Motorcycle/ATV jacks just don't cut it and I'm sick of hunching over or being on my knees so a table type lift will be bought this winter at some point when they go on sale.

Install your stand completely without the spring. Put springs end in a vice, bend it over a bit and put washers in the gaps between the coils, bend it over to the other side and put some more washers in. You will find its now more than long enough to be put easily into the holes in frame and stand. Move the stand a bit and all the washers fall out when the spring gets extended a bit more. Grab all the washers from the floor and go for a ride.

I just did this last month. I had no luck with any of the above methods, but a spring puller tool - I used a Motion Pro, it was $12 on sale - and a mighty tug did the job in a heartbeat.
