Changing my front tire, I just noticed the two legs fork seem to be of different lenght?? I have Lansdowne dampers in there... Can it be it?
Thks.
Can you explain?

While the wheel is out, the axle should slide through both legs easily by hand. If it doesn't then somethings' out.

The Lansdowne cartridge will set the fork length since is attaches to the fork cap and lower leg bottom.
Taking for granted the cartridges were the same extended length at installation maybe one is not fitted equal at the cap or is backing out.
That looks to be quite a difference though.

I'll take a guess.

29 came off cause 28 popped off.

I am going to expound on my own theory.

When hanging with no hydraulic compression, the the fork tube will bottom out against the bottom bushing #29. If the circlip #28 for the bottom bushing breaks, pops off or become released is some manner, the fork will the bottom out at the end of the damper rod.

You should only have to take your left fork apart. You appear to be almost there anyhow.

Now here is the real issue. If you unscrew the fastener from the bottom of the left slide, it might all come tumbling down. The trick will be to get the upper bushing and seal out without the aid of the bottom bushing to help. A blind bearing puller and slide hammer will be needed to do this in order to retrieve the bottom bush and clip from the slider.

Just a theory.

Just a guess, but as one damper does compression, and the other rebound, then perhaps one is being held up hydraulically?

The photo would be more convincing if we could see the bottom yoke too

But it's the damper assembly that limits fork extension, the bush & circlip do not.

I, kind of, like the idea of the dampener unscrewed from the top...
Busy week but I should be able to investigate next weekend...

I said it was just a theory. Then it must be the other way around with the damper being unscrewed and bumping on the bottom bushing. Or the bottom screw is gone and drained all the oil out on a ride?
Either way he has to take it apart and screw it back together.

NEXT WEEKEND! WTF! I want to know NOW.

Sorry Pete... In between a little broken leg (did I mention I fall of the Norton 2 weeks ago... A slow locked rear wheel : damn R1 caliper/mk 3 grabby disc!!!! + sand) and tons of work, I'll bring her to Ken Armann Friday or Saturday....1st time I was really riding her since the complete rebuild following the encounter with an out of control red Ducati Missile 4 years ago... I have found that my handlebars are wrongly bent at the end: need a XT Yamaha handlebars, Brembo lever was at a wrong angle and the rear brake just lock the wheel when you look at the pedal (just ordered one of these fake ABS gadgets to put on the rear...). After that I will still have to adapt my CV Keihin 'cause the Amals are really a pain to operate...
Maybe I should stick to my Can Am and Ural and just forget about 2 wheels??

Well... It was just the dampner unscrewed from the top... Only destroyed one thread... Back on it!

You can still ride a bicycle can't you?

Bicycles rock. Just rode mine home from a local party, wobbling all over the place...much safer.

Now what would a rational sane mature adult do with such harsh evidence being repeated so no doubt about giving up full control of life and limb once in a saddle, powered or peddled. I absolutely need to know how folks come to grips with this.
Wes and I talked about this on return in car from awsome surreal machine gun shoot and came to agreement if it has more than two wheels sane practical non wealthy folks better off with a convertible car. Another thing that we both noticed and agreed on that these fast spending ammo folks were having things wear out, break or blow up just like us, spending more time recovering than shooting but making memories like all get Out! Oh yeah we also both noted how much safer and w/o injury there was with like 1000 people and 1/4 mile long firing line. You can keep your zippy mini guns but trading a good Combat for a good .50cal and a barrel of tracers with explosive rounds, now that is emotionally tempting.
