If you could design/grind your own camshaft, what would be the specs?...I LOVE acceleration while at the same time rideability.
I am tearing the CH off and (again) looking to make its performance adherent to the idea of low end acceleration while being fast and smooth....
I really am interested in what you did and the way you did it.
Or...did Norton get it right the first time and find the right balance?

As a general rule, if you ask 10 Norton owners this question thou shalt receive a minimum of 11 answers...

But slightly more seriously, it’s not so simple as saying ‘improve on the original’.

Improve what? Bottom end, mid range, top end, gas mileage, etc, etc.

Those who know about Norton’s have actually often said that the stock cam is a pretty fine design. ‘Improving’ on it requires a little more precise explanation of exactly what improvement you’re looking for.

What spec commando do you have at the moment?
IE 750 or 850 ? Twin carbs or single micastrate etc pea shooters or black cap?
There are as you no doubt already know lots of things you can do before changing he camshaft
I read somewhere the standard cam in a commando is the old Dommi SS profile and Norton used to win races with that one
Personally I like the the 2s cam because I like the rush further up the rev range
I remember talking to people back in the day that had fitted 4s cams and removed them shortly after because of the lack of low/mid range
With the knowledge on this site someone will tell you a good choice of cam to use on the street
Cheers

Thank you fellas.
Stock 1974 850 twin Amal’s. Keeping the Amals, like the performance and appearance.

Stock cam with a good head job will give you plenty of bang for your buck, even without increasing Vv size.
