Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

Someone is going to ask you to post some pictures of your JPN. Not me.

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

pictures will help a lot

but assuming it starts and runs well though all gears up to around 105mph with no audible issues and the cosmetics are quite good

anywhere from 7-10K maybe just based on a premium a buyer would pay for its rarity

other than being a stock 850 pretty much just the bodywork/seat is added to pretty it up

7-10k for a clean runner.

This one is maybe $5k from the pics.

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

Others may chime in with similar posts, but I'll be the first to say I'll take it off your hands for free to give you more room in your garage. Who could resist a deal like that?

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

Yes I would be second in line on the free to good home idea! But to try and help, I spied one on Australian eBay that was a nice clean original runner and the owner was seeking between 12~16 K aus. Bear in mind good clean Roadster are fetching slightly less money here. Trouble is people see a bike advertised for big $ and then think their tatty one is worth the same. Looking at the pictures of the one here, it certainly has potential.

A to be a nice bike
B to consume quite a few $
C be a nice ride after some sweet and tears

Just my humble opinion.

So in Australia it would probably get $7K as is?

Cheers Richard

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

i would consider a trade for a early 70's big block mopar driver or flare side early 60's f100 . located in florida.

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

Let me throw my name on the list to take it off your hands for free.

I however have one stipulation,
you will have to keep all of that John Player bodywork!
I personally think that it alone makes the bike one of the ugliest production machines ever made.

Probably sacrilege here on this forum, but I would rather ride a high rider than a JPN.

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

Google Jay Leno riding his John Player...looks much better in motion.

Re: what is the value of my 74 john player

A buddy of mine...unofficial Prez of the local British bike group (COMA) picked up a trashed JPN a couple of years ago....paid about $5K. With some TLC and lots of $$$ he transformed it into a stunning example of Norton finery. I have to admit, the JPN was gorgeous!! The smoked glass on his fairing really set it off. I sat on it and, wow, the position was way more comfortable than mine with the Tomeselli clipons.

His bike won 1st place in the overall Brit competition and mine (pictured) won best Cafe Racer....hey I got a free set of front & rear Avons for just showing up.

bye

I think it was my "I'd rather ride a high rider" comment that sent him packing.

sorry wrong forum, thanks for your input stockie.

Seriously? Where else would you post a potentially interesting thread about a sleeping JPN??

Delphi Forums? 8)

Looks like we lost the person who started this topic? :?:
That's ok. Many threads go on for weeks without the first poster ever chiming back in...... or ever get the answer they were looking for, for that matter.

Oh well.

Hey cmessenk, what's that "bar bag" of yours? (And have we had this conversation already? Smacks of deja vu for some reason.)

I think you hit it right on the head. It's apparent he was looking for his own answer and didn't find it.

No prob, Brian...it's a Tour Master tool bag that doubles nicely as a carrier of odds and ends in addition to the basic tools I carry. Fits nicely on the old handlebar clamps...stays in place...easy to access. The price is right too:

These " What's my prized rustbucket worth?" threads tend to end badly ( hey, I know a bit about threads that end badly! :D )
Response choices are
1. You lie and tell the OP that his sorry looking, long neglected, needs everything except the clutch lever replaced bike is a gem that will bring over 100k at Bonhams. This is what he wants to hear, but like the thread, will send him on an adventure that will end badly.

2. No one responds. This tends to irritate new members as well.

3. Try to give an accurate idea of an actual selling price in the real world of the market place. This will also bring anger because it will be a much lower figure than the OP has in mind, particularly for a gem that he has been "sitting on" for 15 years. When one "sits on" something rather than "works on" something, the sitter feels it should somehow increase in value dramatically, whereas actually working on the bike will only increase the value a little, maybe by about half the value of the parts purchased :D
Now all of my Saturday sarcasm is used up, have to wait till Sunday for more

They also seem to all be on a level of seriousness equaling that of a journalist reporting on the Holocaust. "I came here looking for answers from you people. How dare you interject humor!" Like my Grandpa always said, "Fuck em If they can't take a joke."
