Continuing the refresh of my Mk3 Roadster, I spotted the plaque on the headstock -
build date

Am I right in thinking this is the build month, April 1975?

Supplementary question - can any UK folk hazard a guess at when it will become eligible for free tax if things continue as they are - could it be this April or next?

Cheers, Jon

Correct.

If the red Vin plate was a little clearer, it says manufactured 4 75,
which equates to April 1975 like you say.

Someone familiar with UK rules will have to comment on the tax business.

Thanks Rohan.
I did about 30 second's Googling and answered the other question -

Budget 2013 announced a measure to extend the scope of the VED exemption to classic vehicles by one additional year. From the 1 April 2014, vehicles manufactured in 1973 will be added to the exemption for this category. Budget 2014 announced the introduction of a rolling 40 year exemption of VED on classic vehicles. From the 1 April 2015, vehicles constructed 40 years ago will be added to the scope of the exemption.

By that measure I have a year and a bit to wait.

I wouldn't get too excited. The Conservatives introduced a 25 year rolling exemption years ago and my 72 Commando just qualified but my buddies 75 Trident didn't. Then Labour got in and abandoned it, much to his annoyance. Now the Con/Libs have brought in this 40 year exemption but it's anyones guess if the new, probably coalition, government will continue it. I hope it does continue but it won't make me vote Tory.
