by the time you have sorted the brakes, gearbox, soft cam, battery, starter motor, tyres, you might as well by a new one!

Missed the porous head

If all of that was bad you'd still be ahead. But it's a '75 MK3, not a '74 as advertised. Besides this poor thing will end up back in dry storage or some quasi rich AH's livingroom and never get ridden anyway. That's what I would do if I were a rich AH!

You are of course correct, the only value that will remain in this bike is if you keep it warm and comfy and do not ride it
If I were that rich I would buy it and use it as the loss would be of no consequence

No, need do all that work - it has been done. The tank is poorly painted - Norton logo is to far forwrad, the tank lining looks incorrect, the shape of the tank looks like a replacement of dubious quality, the steel wound sleeves are missing from the oil lines from the oil tank, the side panel does not fit correctly - the logo is either poorly applied or the incorrect fasteners are used, as I'm sure if was fitted correctly the logo would be horizontal even AN would have applied it so it was level - this is far from being a new model, and looks like someone will get ripped off.

Is this a case of seeing what we want to see?

I'm not sure why you think the tank has been poorly painted or that the lining is incorrect? The Norton logos are, after all, decals applied to the paintwork, agreed they look too far forward, but otherwise it all seems as it should, in my opinion.

It's probably been tarted up a bit in order to sell it (note the chromed cap "black cap" silencers) but I think it would be extremely difficult (or expensive) to attempt to pass off a used bike as new.

Are any visible on the bike in the crate? The steel protector sleeve would normally only be fitted on the return pipe.

That's about it, the side panel isn't fitted correctly.

This will make interesting watching - The Belgian 850s made around 16-18K Euros apiece (from recollection).
The black ones fetched more than the silver. But they were all undoubtedly new!
Guess what colour I'm doing my Combat...

How can a serious seller expect to sell a condition-dependent vehicle on eBay with two poor quality low-res photos ?

The barrel seems to lack the red oval paint splodge that Mk3s generally had and which was presumably some sort of inspector's mark. The gearboxes also had a square sticker on but that wouldn't be visible here. If I was in the market for an unused Commando, I'd want it to be in ex-factory condition and not tidied-up / repainted after poor storage.

However, I wouldn't swap my 100,000+ mile example for this one.

99p to £8,422 GBP after 1 day's bidding they're not doing so badly, but I expect it's viewable at Route 65.

LAB, I bid 8 k ,on day one, but after comments i have bowed out. Commandos are going sharply up! A John Played recently fetched 14K .

Yeah, I know, it's frightening! Certainly better than money in the bank.

Frightening, Yes! But if you've already got one it's rather reassuring.

There's a PR on UK e-bay at the moment for £13k, but careful study reveals it's not a particularly faithful replica...

I wonder if the 961s are increasing the desirability of the originals?

as for £14K for a JP Replica... maybe I should dress up my MkIIA?
Are any of the JP specific parts unavailable?
A friend of mine had to turn one down at £1K some years ago because he couldn't afford it.

I was thinking more about having to replace the one we've already got, for whatever reason.

A MK 2a with 33k one owner fetched £9000 at stafford show, that was private ,not Bonhams.
Must admit it was very nice and clean.

Where's the 'chin hits floor really hard' icon when you need it?!

(Re-grouping quickly) In that case....

Offers invited (perhaps  ):
