Would anyone know the bolt (screw?) size for the RH side (oil tank) cover bolts on a 73 / 750 ?

Theres two of these short bolts that fasten in from the top and the way the cover sits looks like only 4 or 5 threads engage into the blind threaded holes of the oil tank. Strangely, the cover seems "sprung" also, maybe to put tension on the bolts stop ratling out over time ? (or maybe just a bad fit)

sods law, i pulled 3 or 4 winds of the thread out the top of one oil tank hole the other day but I'm thinking maybe a longer bolt might pick up good threads further down ?

cheers

Mine are longer, 1" or 1-1/4"... because (OP) you have damaged threads, you should get the longest one you can, even shortening a long bolt to achieve good engagement of remaining threads.

'73 has the metal sidecover - both screws 3/4" - according to the parts book on Old Britts.

They are 2 different lengths on my '72 fiberglass cover - 1/2" and 3/4". The longer one is in the rear position.

Not all '73's had steel side covers. Mine came with a steel tank and f/glass side covers. (850)

Just to clarify, my bolts have been replaced by the PO, most likely to adress this very issue.

Run a 1/4-28 tap into the tank threaded bosses before you put the new bolts in.

You want to get a good feel of the true torque when you tighten the bolts down on the side cover.
