Bob I am now living vicariously through you to enjoy my Maney fix. You'll have to post a picture once you get your Maney barrels.

Coco, You sure that's legal in Canada? But will do 8)

Of course, this spensive stuff will only be as good as it all works together as a unit. I set off on the project with an aim of just getting a running and reliable bike on the road and to then improve it Winter by Winter. Circumstances have forced me to buy new major parts - I didn't want to buy key components that were used and have always believed that paying for quality is often more economical in the long run. So here I am - potless!!

I have considered this as a colour. What do you think?

Not the wood though!

Seely, That looks grooovy - would be good to see some other photos of the bike. Is it the actual colour, or just similar?

Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob,
Well, quite similar, although it's a bit faded now! I have a new seat/fairing which I'm getting done at the moment with the original green metalflake/white stripe down the side though. Actually, that shade of green came from Halfords...

That might be a little clearer for the colour....scratches and all :)

seeley, are you about to be swamped by tridents in the first pic,the noise as they passed you must have been wonderful. :p

Hi Splatt,

Actually I had started from the back row, and outdragged the entire field on the way to the first corner! OK, so a couple came past me eventually, but theres nothing in it power wise....the only one I need to worry about is my brother on his trident (No71) if you flick forward on the pics you'll see it........mind you he was F750 champion this year, and he does like the wet!

,i was not aware that dunstall called his cam a 4s,

Hi Chris, I was answering Seeley at the same time you were typing and missed your input till now. That's a good call. Seems I've had a picture of "4S" stamped on the cam emblazened in my mind from old memories. Looking at the box it is indeed called a Mk 4 (pt 3030).
Stamped on the cam is:
PD/R2
R/540
WFC
and yes, I will use radiused followers with this.
Thanks all[/quote]

hi rennie,i dont think you,ll go far wrong with the dunstall cam,he knew what he was doing

Cormac likes the wet!

Hi John
Love that line. Cormac likes the wet!
Bloody well flys in the dry!
Its a shame that the photo shows the circuit, as it would have made a good competition.
Ie which circuit is this? Clues, it rained all weekend.
hmm not helpfull as it rained at them all.
I know, racing had to be abandoned? No! that happened twice!!
I know I scared myself s***less on the triple & stayed in the dry of the van for the rest of the day at Snetterton! Its was'nt looking down & seeing the front wheel stopped & aquaplanning whilst braking from max revs in third it was the thought of who I might have taken out as I sailed straight on!
John who do you use to cut the valve pockets in the pistons?
I am building the big valve motor with the reangled head.
Making a pigs ear springs to mind.
Cant wait for next season
see you out there
all the best Chris

hi chris, i know you,re not asking me the question but steve maney cut the pockets in my pistons

Hi Chris,
my pistons come with big valve cut outs as standard, but either Mick Hemmings or Steve Maney can be recomended to do a good job! Now get cracking! I'll have my short stroke ready for this season too!!!

hi seeley, is that a short stroke 750 you,re talking about im interested to know more about it

Hi Chris,

Yes, a 750.....77x80.4...with original configuration....i.e. longer rods, omega pistons etc. I'm using a Maney barrell and cases though, as I had a few sets of cases become 4 piece when the motor started to make real power!

oh dear i better start looking for more cases then lol, thats if i can start makeing serious power, i,ve gone a different route tho still in the build stage so totally untried, got the longer rods and omega pistons but was advised that the pistons were too heavy what do you think

Good afternoon in the U.K., or whatever time it is elsewhere in Nortonland. A quick question before I finish putting my cylinder head together (or putting an order in to Mick Hemmings!):

I have just about recovered from the strain of talking my georgeous wife into paying for the new barrels and have finally got round to micing up my rocker shafts. As I said earlier in this thread, they do have some wear. This translates to between one and half a thou at their most worn point. There will obviously be further wear in the rocker bores and there is certainly perceptible rock of the rockers on their shafts - clumsy, but I hope it gets the point across. I'm not being lazy or mean, but I would really like to fit what I have into the head and do the work of replacing/shimming/lightening next winter. Obviously I neither want to compromise the oil feed to my v expensive bottom end, nor over fill the head with oil. I know it's difficult without actually seeing the parts, but what do you think? Can I get away with it, or am I being stupid to even consider it?

Cheers, Bob

I would give the wife a dozen roses and then talk to her again, I feel your pain when it comes to this type of thing. I have spent way more than I had planed but you want to do it right and a set of rockers and shafts would make you feel a lot better. Sleep on it and then go back to your wife and explain it to her. LOL LOL It works!!!! Take care, Chuck. :D

Hi Chuck,

Roses? Translate that to a four day trip to Rome - thank the Lord for airmiles!!! Not purely altruistic, I want the trip also.

I feel sure you're right, I just don't want you to be right, and this would definitely be coming from my own meagre funds. (second wicket down as I write, s**t) I'll wait and see if there are any other observations and I expect it will be time to pick up the phone.

Cheers, Bob

So that would make them the same as every one elses 35 year old rocker shafts and rockers, although it does seem sad that you are starting to feel guilty about spending your wifes hard earned cash at this stage in the story. :(
