Well, not too guilty Splatt; although I did do the washing-up and clean the cooker today!!!

hi bob, have you considered a rocker feed off the return side of the pump ,that way you dont compromise oil pressure to the crank and you dont over oil the head

Hi Chris,

That's a good thought. I'm going to get new spindles as a first step, see what the play is like and take it from there. Your suggestion may be a runner, as I can't see a way for new rockers being on the menu at the mo.

Someone must have tried to sleeve rocker bores............ :?:

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,
If you do go with the low pressure return feed option, just be careful, as the rocker spindles were different for this....they were scrolled, and also when you put them in the flats face the opposite direction i.e. towards the centre of the head. I won't be home til tomorrow, but hang fire on ordering new ones, I think I have a set of scrolled ones in a box at home. I'll check, and if they're there you can have them, as all my motors use the plain spindles, so they're just sittin there!
I don't really see a problem with boring and sleeving the rockers, although I've never tried it!

Hi Seeley,

Kind offer, thanks. Plain ones already ordered, but not a problem as I can always chop them back. I'll look at the play when they arrive and re-evaluate from there. I had noticed that scrolled spindles were needed for the low pressure application and am not convinced that I want to go there - all very interesting and illuminating though.

Cheers and thanks again, Bob

hi bob and john, just wondering,is there enough meat on the rockers to bore and sleeve them, and how much will it weaken them, it might be worth asking mick hemmings or steve maney

Chris, that's exactly what I was thinking - there must be a reason you don't see the service offered, as they are both expensive and, as I understand, like rocking horse excrement to get hold of - according to Angie Hemmings anyway. The new spindles should arrive on Friday, so I'll only worry about it if I find I have a problem.

Bob

silver plating was an old and good method of fixing something like that, but how far do you need to go,tridents are all feed off the return line.
