My combat roadster turns 50 this month. Don’t know what to get it….already has everything.
Birthday Bike.

Poor old girl deserves something maybe a new set of suspenders to keep her tight and looking good.

A nice cool glass of oil
For god's sake don't what type though!!!

Yes take it out for a good flogging, I mean ride and maybe a oil change before the ride, no just take it out and enjoy it, usually on my Norton's birthday I have a few beer while giving it a good polish, only happens on it birthday, the day I rode it out of the dealers when I bought it new 22nd of June 1976 old stock 74 Commando I was 17 years old and paid $1999 on the road.

Mine is almost 50 also. I got it a pair of those fancy billet petcocks. Shiny!

Yes take it for a ride, I took mine out for a ride a couple of days ago to run the sta-bill through it. It was cold and the bike loved it, it seems to run a bit better when it's like that. Now she's going to sleep for a few months.

Interesting concept.

Do the Hwy 4, Hwy 89, Hwy 88 loop. Get yourself some Tylenol and 4 fingers of Tequilla when you get back.
I think some of the passes are closed for the winter. I do get to these places in the summer. I like the more southern loop that includes Sonora Pass Hwy 108.

The oil I use is getting quite expensive at $18/quart. Guess it must be worth it, 40,000 miles on the last rebuild and the piston to cylinder clearance is .004” to .005”.

Oh yeah, snow and ice. I lived in California for 6 decades. I've done all of the passes at one time or another, but in the warmer months. Great riding in California.

My Combat (2023XX, former Interstate) turns 50 this month too - I have completely run out of gift ideas for her - LOL

On an interesting note, mine is slightly lower SN than the OP’s, but the frame plate says Jan 72. Plan is for a fresh paint job for a birthday present.

Dereck,
Cruise control? You must live in flat land Ontario. :)
I really hate it when online puts a Commando in “cruiser” category of motorcycles.

It is more of a throttle lock - I have mild carpal tunnel syndrome and need all the help I can get
