Dereck,
Cruise control? You must live in flat land Ontario. :)
I really hate it when online puts a Commando in “cruiser” category of motorcycles.
And yes, the roads are a bit too flat and straight where I live, so we spend a lot more time by the Great Lakes and typically a few trips to central / eastern Ontario per year. There are some curvy roads, just a bit of a ride to get to them - not that I mind too much.

Don't forget the bumpy roads in Lavigne Ont. , next year. A mere 7 hrs. north.

On an interesting note, mine is slightly lower SN than the OP’s, but the frame plate says Jan 72. Plan is for a fresh paint job for a birthday present.
I suspect production versus serial number wasn’t that linear. Is your’s a combat?

Yes, Combat engine, I’ve owned the bike since 1985, so I suspect the frame plate is original, not a replacement. I just sent my order to Andover for the dispatch record, we’ll see what they have.

Ah. I think it’s a bit too far for my poor body. Google maps shows 2631 miles and time 1 day, 17 hours.
You could trailer it in , many do.
Then drive about locally in between tech. talks , entertainment , eatings ( local fresh Walleye last year ) and group rides ( long and short ).

My Commando is 50 years old this morning, it was the first machine built on Thursday 9th December 1971. A blue 750 Roadster, 2006**

Whereas myself? Probably headed for detention as I was still at school.

I was a freshman in college in Dec ‘71. Waiting for the draft to catch up to me by the following summer. Viet Nam era. Joined the Air Force to stay out of that part of the world. Bought my first Commando 201123 built Oct ‘71.

Cool.
The draft only accentuates the overall problem.
Personally I would run for the hills should this occur under any so - called Gov't.
Canada is free of the Draft. I know several older Americans who fled north when receiving notice.
Peace and Love to all , although Human nature is flawed.
Live and learn .
Peace to all these holidays.

Actually running for Canada was a common action during Viet Nam.

i MUST BE bad. i turned 70 in July and my 750 turned 50. I didn't celebrate either. As for straight roads., I think the longest straight around here isn't more than 3 kms long. We have some beauty 1st gear corners as well. Love the way it can keep the japers at bay.
