Better news from Belgium: Yves Seeley Norton's condition improving!

Dear all, Yves' condition remains critical and he is still in Intensive Care. His femur has been repositionned correctly in his hip and his leg has been put on traction with inserted pins. Yesterday, he actually called me himself directly by phone (Marina had to dial as his hands are heavily bandaged) and he was his usual combative self, making sure that me and the world knew that he didn't cause the accident ( strong language, parental advisory mandatory). He was extremely moved, almost to tears, when I told him about the flow of support pouring in from across the globe, especially on this forum, and tells you that every single of your messages brings him closer to jump again on his Seeley.

However, his condition is still very serious and he doesn't fully realize yet the extent of his injuries (he told me that the accident timing wasn't too bad because he will have the winter to rebuild both himself and the machine!!!), he is heavily sedated most of the time as he wants to jump out of his bed as soon as the morphine level is lowered a bit.

The next week or so will still be crucial, if he pulls successfully through it, then the long healing and reeducation will start.
Thank you again for your wonderful positive energy that means the world to him.

Thanks for the update Bruno. Like many others here I think about how easily we could be in the same position due to others negligence. Ride safe all.

Cheers,

Cliffa.

Bruno

Thanks for the update. Give Yves my best wishes. Fellow Seeley Commando owner & all that.
Hope he keeps fighting.

Chris

At least the morphine will take his mind of the smoking.

As Valentino Rossi said “My morale is reasonably high because I've discovered I have a great rapport with morphine.”

Fingers crossed

Very glad to read your last post Bruno, and as others already said thanks for the update. I was kind of thinking the same thing as Esemerela, maybe nows a good time for Yves to leave cigarette smoking behind him, and start a new chapter in his life (surely physical therapy is in his future). Anyway, my wife Megumi says - - "O dai ji ni"- - or get well.... We will keep he And Marina in our thoughts. cj & me

Speedy recovery to ya Yves. 2 1/2 years for me. Loved the morphine. Someone make sure I'm on it when it's time to leave this planet. Enjoy each day.

I have had a long conversation with Yves this afternoon, he is combattive and determined to rebuild himself and his precious Norton over the winter! He told me he was hoping to have been riding alongside me today as the weather was gorgeous...

In the meantime, I have just set up a Facebook support group for Yves to consolidate the number of messages during Yves' long upcoming recovery, please visit and post:

Get well soon Yves
Is anyone going to open a "Go Fund Me" account?

This is a very generous proposal indeed! However, right now Yves needs time to start rebuilding his battered body before we can start to think about his bike. But we will get there!

Together with a couple of Nortonista friends, we will organize the insurance claim and meet their experts on Yves's behalf.

When that will be on the way we will devise the best possible strategy to help him rebuild his gorgeous bike.

I'm hoping there'll be a compensation package for Yves' and his family's distress and extra costs incurred in caring for Yves' partner both now and in the future, besides the rebuild costs for the bike, and anything else at all that can be claimed.

Most European countries have some form of national health service so an unfortunate accident like this doesn’t automatically start wracking up tens of thousands of dollars in debt for the victim, although loss of earnings, property damage etc will eventually have to be settled by insurance.

Yes, Yves and Marina are taking an attorney to deal with that aspect of the problem.

Exactly, Belgium health care system works well, so no problem on that front for the foreseeable future.

After hospital , I suppose he will go to Pellenberg revalidation centre ?
If so , I will go see him there .It's a nicer place to receive visitors .

Great News!
Yves is finally out of intensive care! I went to spend the afternoon with him yesterday in his hospital room. (Room 106, as in Amal needle jet...).

As you can see on the first picture, his morale is going up. I showed him this thread (second picture) and he was crying of emotion while reading all your wonderful support messages.

His physical condition is stable now, his leg has been put in traction for the next 6 weeks as his heart would not allow a 4 or 5 hour surgery. Other than that, his entire body still hurts ("I feel like I am in a moving cement truck"), but he is healing normally.

As I said before, your wonderful messages of support quite litterally mean the world to Yves, this crazy community is very close to his -vintage- heart. Please keep them coming.

You can also call him directly on his phone +32494757510 between 9am and 9pm Belgian time.

Brussels is 1h ahead of the UK, 6hrs ahead of NY, 9hrs ahead of the West Coast, not too sure about Australia and New Zealand, but I think Oz is about 10-11hrs ahead of Brussels.

920 Thank you's on his behalf!

Bruno

No plans yet, but he is in a nice sunny (yesterday at leats) room and needs visits as often as possible. Six weeks of total immobilisation will be (are!) very hard on such a crazy person!!
I would suggest that you go whenever you can, he is very eager for company.

Jan Portaels Hospital, Vilvorde, room 106, afternoons.

Ok , I will go see him there .
Probably tomorrow . I am only 15 km away .
btw , my neighbours ( couple ) are both nursing in that hospital ..
