This should strike some interest I am sure, original refit or after market upgrade? Oil or grease? Needle roller or bush?
Regards Mike

Heinz Kegler's Swing Arm Rings

Or any kind of bolt, ring, that pushes the swing arm spindle forward just a little to take out play from wear

I like my monoshock conversion just fine.

Now working on retrofitting my Dunstall Combat with a monoshock Mark III setup with rear disc, that'll be number 4.

I currently have needle bearings in mine; got about 2000 miles on em'. Plan on checking them out within the next couple weeks; and will post some pics on the wear. Should be interesting ...

Look forward to the update, as it will be at least two weeks before I get home to get to my swingarm
Post some pics once you get it apart if you can Thamks

Will be interested to see what the outcome is. One of our club members was to remove his needle bearings and revert to bushes - he was finding a notchy feel to the bearing movement. Presumably the usually limited movement range resulting in the race(s) wearing/deforming locally under the rollers?
He may well have had a lot more than 2000 miles though.

Ian B,
Kob in Gissy has needle rollers, haven't had any feed back from hime will ring when I get home from China

That doesn't look like a Norton, looks like a David Brown tractor.

Check that wheel spindle and swingarm spindle are parallel .
Swingarms can be warped ..
My MK III was off by a surprising amount, little bit blunt force while swing-arm was clamped on machine table was all that was required to get them in the same plane. Accurate measurements and markings for axle alignment help also.

Do a spindle fix of some sort, the spindle must be clamped in the spindle tube. Then ream the spindle tube and the swingarm bushings to fit a new oversize spindle. You then, of course, have no need for new swing arm bushings.

I would think any good machinist would be able to fit a new oversized spindle in the cradle and bore the bushes to fit. Then put on the Kegler clamps to keep it from getting loose again. I had mine done by Nithburg quite a few years ago, maybe '03.

Hi Dave, I have access to machine shop and lathe so no issue there, just need to be home to do the work as I m working in China!!!
There is another thread running as well,'swing arm bushes' so have been watching that as well.
Went right back to the NOC UK and read some info there, one post was on how to remove all without splitting primary drive (to access reas ISO for a repair or retro fit vernier type)) a good way to check the whole of the swing arm and see if it is square to the cradle/engine plates.
Will post some pics and reply when I carry it out.
Regards Mike

You don't need a machine shop, you just need an adjustable reamer. The reaming of the spindle tube can be done in place.

The reamer can be used to open up and restore the spindle tube walls to parallel and to round and to allow a tight fit for a new oversized spindle pin. Then the reamer is also used to open up the ID of the (old or new) swing arm bushings to fit the new oversize spindle pin as well.

The hard part is finding someone with an adjustable reamer that is both the right size in diameter AND that is long enough to ream the entire length of the spindle tube.

I believe Old Britts sells the oversized spindle pins.

I forgot about a WELL proven "big bearing" conversion that Kenny Dreer used to do. Dave Edwards' bike had it, my blue bike has it. I have the last one he made sitting on the shelf...

Hi GrandPaul, any chance of some pics?
At what cost to get ot off your shelf and shippeto New Zealand?
